I appreciate the sentiment but I saw Clarke up close today and brother he is a 50/50 shot to make it at best. McNeil is streets ahead right now.

        Coffield very likely
        Bramble possibly
Daniel stupid to suggest he isn't an automatic selection
        McNeil no

Was concerned early on with the poor kicking at goal but looks like the 2nd half performance was really good by improving the accuracy ending with a score 17.17.

Hard to tell of course if the Hawks were going 100% or not and they have a number of players out but you can only play who you play and it gives us confidence going into season 2024.

Khamis - looks to have improved. Good competitiveness, read the play well. Should be in the best 22 to start which is a great effort that nobody would have picked at the beginning of preseason.

Coffield - Looks to be going well. Reads it well and is a natural interceptor. Clearly best 22 and just needs to build continuity.

Bramble - I'm unconvinced but we just don't have many other options for this role. I'm not sure he's a good defender but he seems to link up OK.

Daniel - needs a good season. Probably also needs a defined role. Need his composure and ball use but he needs to perform to hold his spot, a position he probably hasn't been in so far in his career.

Vandermeer - does some good things but I don't see it as being enough. Same as McNeil. Not enough attacking flair and aside from good moments of pressure, not enough for me to pick him.

I hope Clarke can play well early in the VFL season because we are desperate for another quality small.

On Daniel - he came 4th in our B&F last year.

Suddenly he’s shot, on the ropes, struggling.

Are we getting it wrong as supporters? Or is he just suffering from lack of a defined role?

He didn’t do much, but when he gets the ball in the back half and can take it inside **** me we look good.

It was interesting that he didn't come on until later. Suggests he isn't the lock he was.

I've said for a while he really needs a clearly defined role but that kick he took inside was the best of the game and why he needs to play, and why we need to continue getting the ball into his hands.

Really happy for Khamis, he was right in the firing line and after a successful season as a forward for Footscray has jumped at the chance to play in our back line. 3 weeks back I didn't think we could have he and Coffield in the same side but it now might work.

Coffield looks to be a steady player for us. Reads the play well and gets the balance right between attack and defense.

Bramble is no sure thing but he's had two good games against the Hawks and had a hand in a couple of goals. Some things to work on but some encouraging signs

McNeil must nearly be a lock, Daniel needs to be played and Vandermeer is a bit of a tease.

Tonight is the first I'm hearing anyone doubt his spot in the 22.

Would have thought not playing the first half tonight was just about some combination of managing his load and giving some other guys like Gallagher and Bramble a look.

He also spent the second half mostly on a wing, which is a fairly unusual role for CD. I think he's too good not to play, but also not sure where he quite fits at the moment. I think if Sanders wasn't playing so well, he'd probably slot in as that half forward who rolls up to the contest
