Re: Welcome to the WBFC - Caleb Daniel

How good is his ball retention? It's almost off the charts. I never saw Barry Cable, but the way Caleb moves and kicks on both feet is very Sam Mitchell like. He hangs onto the ball and waits for an opening - whilst Macrae does this too, I think Caleb does it far better. He seems to avoid trouble almost always.

I feel more comfortable when he has the ball than just about anyone else in our side (perhaps excluding Murph).

My comfort factor is high too. Not bad for a bloke whose barely played a couple of handful of games.

He is such a smart footballer and never wastes a ball.

Re: Welcome to the WBFC - Caleb Daniel

So would it be Caleb Cable?

Cable isn't a bad comparison. I think Caleb is a bit like Shaun Hart from Brisbane too especially with the helmet but I didn't realise that BC was the same height as Caleb. Keeping the ball and step stepping away from opponents until he gets the best option is a lot like Barry Cable too.

Barry Cable used to have a nap just before the game as part of his prematch routine. It drove Barrassi mad. He must have been a gun if Ron Barrassi was prepared to put up with him having a bit of a snooze pre game.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

His tackling is better in his 2nd year. Last year, he was being brushed off like a fly a lot of the time. This year...well, he got a free against mzungu for a goal and I thought in match 2 he made them stick as well.

Agree. When you hear Caleb's name called on the radio the heart rate goes down for a split second.

Cable was one of the all time greats and I thnk Caleb may well leave his own mark on football history.
I have vague memories of Cable, and can recall how well respected he was - solidly built fella and fair headed I recall.

I just love Daniel - my fave player now alongside Picken. Become a crowd fave with just a handful of games is testimony to his immense silky class (inversely proportional to his height). Go Mighty Mouse!! Also speaking on behalf of the ladies he is good lookin' chap of which we have a good share of. I think lads like Daniel are going to make this a year to remember for the mighty dogs.

On his TAC cup highlights reel there is one where Caleb gets the ball deep in defence and the opposition set up a sort of screen in front of him. So Caleb just runs at it and the players in it start running backwards so he just bounces the ball to the 50 metre and kicks a goal while 4 or 5 opposition players run carefully 7-10 metres in front of him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a much respected poster on here who doesn't post as much as I'm sure we'd all like suggested he was the most talented player in his draft year.

Is it any surprise we're raving about him?

He did. And he would know. I wouldn't be overly surprised if he was at the top of some retrospective drafts in future years.

Yes I remember implied that if he was of average height he would of went close to number 1.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

The way he sold "candy" on Saturday night to kick that goal in traffic was superb. Love Caleb especially when he is the Candyman.

Love this kid, his endeavour to win the ball and contest is brilliant.

I'm pretty sure no implication was needed. IIRC he flat out said he was the most talented or best footballer and would be no.1 if he was taller.

He was that ardant about him. I was happy to get him maybe because of what I had read on WOOF.
