People want to arbitrarily unite behind colours and fight other tribes. This tribalism is what drives football at its heart, and the Dogs, in its desire to become bland, colourless and safe, has completely missed the boat on that one.
This is so true. Was out at a Caroline Springs match on the weekend, new area, expanding populous, gateway to the west...etc. I looked around the ground and to my horror there was a "Hawks" sponsor sign on the fence in all its poo and wee glory. They also part own the Grand Mecure there (Westwaters) and Luke Hodge and Cyril Rioli are doing a function there shortly proudly spruiked throughout town. Isn't this the WEST?
As far as i've seen the dogs dont have a presence there which doesn't make alot of sense. Collingwood do owning the Caroline Springs club. The dogs could have made it Caroline Springs - second home of the Bulldogs or something similar (with a bit more thought of course) and contributed to the "CLAN" mentality. Seem to have missed the boat out there already.

Ralphy is right, pretty obvious this is a cultural problem.

Funny world we live...a footballer charged with bashing his girlfriend barely rates a mention in the papers but another footballer who made a questionable quip on the footy field dominates the column inches.

I'd say the Herald Sun has the culture problem, what with their reporters getting shit-faced and bashing the crap out of each other, oh and blowing .13 after they crash into pizza parlours

I'm not dissapointed in the Western Bulldog's response to this incident ... appearantly Will crossed the line, and we imposed a sanction.

My beef is with the media; I can't believe rags such as the Hun believe this is more important AFL news than a player who has a marathon drinking session leading to the alleged assault of a young girl on Friday morning. (quoted directly from the hun), six positive drug tests on current AFL players, the Richmond official that abused an umpire, or Carlton being fined because Marc Murphy, Jeremy Laidler and Jarrad Waite abused an umpire via twitter.

I think Mark Robinson said it best, last night on AFL 360 ... Minson has been hung out to dry by the media circus ... THIS is why I believe the Bulldogs need to respond; and Ralph would be my first target.

My Herald Sun featured Stringer on the front page.

I share your indignation, wholeheartedly. I was particularly angry at the AFL's web-page banner yesterday that grossly sensationalised the issue by representing Pearce and Minson as prize fighters battling a duel.

This is the perfect distraction for the AFL, and for the reasons you've mentioned above they have been able to illuminate a rather trivial matter as a sacrifice to those more important.

I will be supporting the Bulldogs this weekend, but these past few days have placed another nail in the coffin of an organisation that to me is increasingly becoming an absolute farce, and one that prefers to capitalise on distractions for short term commercial gain rather than contributing to the long term benefit of its stakeholders and the society from which it draws its life.

As for media outlets capitalising on this issue, while it annoys me I don't necessarily blame them for the blatant oppornism they have shown. They are driven by profit, and profit is derived from readership and targeted advertising, so collectively we as a society are to blame for the circus that has unfolded this week. We need to demand better from ourselves.
                    TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

When you decide to slander someone by social media there's going to be a reaction.
Unfortunately people think it's Carte Blanche to attack anybody.
Personally don't know Lucy from a bar of soap, but that was really unneccesary to be honest.
It's funny how nobody at Port heard Monty's comments on Ramanaskus a few years ago

News Ltd's worst footy journo Jon Ralph penned that pile of excrement the other day.
Hmm Stokes , Stevie J , Stringer nothing to see here. Sherman, Will, might be a culture problem. He even through in Brett Montgomery!

Even this morning, all radio news reports are leading with the Minson story over the Stringer story. It is quite staggering if you stop and think about it - the sledger is apparently bigger news than the (alleged) girlfriend basher.

I heard yesterday how Geelong acted 'strongly' that's why they are successful.

Maybe we're going the right away about it - look at all the premiership teams since 2006 (all allegedly of course):

West Coke - say no more
Geelong - pissheads, drink drivers, (alleged) drug traffickers, (alleged) girlfriend bashers
Collingwood - (many) pissheads, hoon drivers, illegal gamblers, insider traders, people who leave the scene of an accident, people who (allegedly) bash cleaners into a pulp at fed square
Hawthorn - Rumoured to have 3 strikes x 7, pissheads
Blimey, imagine if St Kilda had've snagged a flag as they should have

Clearly we need more complete and utter *!*!*!*!wits to become a successful premiership team

Just imagine the sledging Stringer will cop when/if he gets a game again.

I am sure that he will be treated with kid gloves and sensitivity if he makes the return against Pt Adelaide.
