It's the best football.

I've only been to the pre-season VFL game at Punt are so far this year. Much harder to make an excuse when it's a 15 minute walk away...but have to get out to the WO before the season is out.

Good to see 19yo Nick Coughlan get another game as the 23rd player. Nice size, developing key defender.

Think we're a big chance of picking him up late in the draft or as a rookie pick.

Is as easy as him v Austin for the key defensive role or does his status as 23rd player mean his in the team?

He's not named in his TAC Cup team lineup, so definitely in the Footscray team from my understanding.

That's a very strong midfield for VFL level.

A must win game on Saturday

Footscray could jump to as high as sixth on the VFL ladder if they come away with a win against Richmond on Saturday.
The Bulldogs currently sit in ninth place after four wins but could leap up the ladder thanks to a healthy percentage.

Veteran Bulldog makes his return in VFL

Veteran defender Dale Morris is set to make his return from a pectoral injury for Footscray against Richmond at Punt Road Oval on Saturday in an important match for the VFL's reigning premiers.


The 32-year-old, who has been sidelined since round three, has been named at centre half-back.


"He is progressing really well through his rehab and off the back of the bye. It's great to have him back to full training," Western Bulldogs football manager Graham Lowe said on the club website


"He's put a lot of work in and it's really pleasing to have him back as an option for us for selection this week."


Morris won't be the only veteran running around Punt Road Oval, with Richmond's Chris Newman also named after returning from a groin injury last week.


Tiger midfielder Kane Lambert also makes his return from a shoulder injury


Footscray will be desperate for a victory given they have dropped to ninth spot with a 4-3 record. Another loss could have them up to three games outside the top four.


Coach Ash Hansen, however, said he feels the club will improve in the second half of the season.

Fails to make mention of the fact that Footscray have only played seven games when some others have played as many as nine.

23rd Player means he is in the team.

VFL teams can field a 23rd player from a TAC Cup squad.
