    2016 Draft and Trade Strategy

I'm particularly interested in what gaps in the playing list we might need to address during the 2016 trade period?

There are a lot of player names being speculated as being available but what do we really need to address?

We need a quality KPD and Hurley is the one i'd be looking at. Roberts and Hamling are never going to be much chop. Collins is a few years away and Adams is just a bit undersized for me.

If we had a Hurley then we wouldn't have to be so defensive and be able to do more damage in transition.

Thanks Anfo, what would be needed to secure Hurley if he were to consider us? I don't think he is a free agent so we would need to trade for him. I think Essendon would demand more than our first round pick for him.

Is there a possibility he can just walk? A late first round pick just won't cut it but they do need mids something we have plenty of.

I don't think so. He will have a few clubs prepared to offer him money so unless he says he only wants to go to one club or he is prepared to walk and potentially land at Brisbane I think clubs will need to trade for him and satisfy Essendon.

I suspect it would need to be a first round pick plus a player that Essendon would demand for Hurley.

Which players might you be prepared to part with?

I think there might be grounds for him to walk to the club of his choice but if not then we can't offer up rubbish. Getting a Hurley could be the key piece we need to get us to the big dance. Players like Hrovat, Smith, Webb, Dunkley, Honeychurch, Biggs, Stevens, Hamilton, Dale & Jong would be up for grabs and maybe a big name like Hunter could get it done.

I love all our players but I'd love a premiership more. Hunter gets a lot of love from the media as a gun but his kicking for mine is poor. He has improved out of sight the last 12 months and his ball getting ability is first class but his kicking has a long way to go. Can he improve his kicking? maybe. I think other teams allow Hunter to accumulate the footy because just doesn't hurt you enough.

I thought he can act as a DFA. Why would we have to give up anything other than salary cap for him?

I think that was just being speculated on and it's probably unlikely. Based on the assumption we would have to trade for him and assuming you want him what would you be prepared to offer for him?

We need guys who run & kick through the middle of the ground.

We need some natural mid & medium sized forwards.

We need trade players with currency to fill holes... I can't see us closing the gap unless we're proactive with our trading.

Totally agree which is why I thought it was strange you didn't seem to keen on Lachie Neale in another thread

Are there any names being talked about that interest you?

We have too many accumulators.. We need some players with a point of difference.

Not sure on his availability, but I would be looking closely at WHE - been injured most of the year, but highly talented and would be nice on a wing or half forward.

As per another thread I'm keen to improve our position in the draft to add in a ball carrying midfielder.

If the recruiting team were confident of his character then I guess a 1st round pick and our 2nd round for their 3rd. Likely not enough for Essendon

Jong gets about half the ball that Hunter gets. To improve with the ball you have to get it in your hands first. I'd trade Jongy first I am afraid to say.

We have a lot of the same mid types .
Need a line breaker and probably a key back for mine .
                            They won't be trading Hunter

                              Do you mean like Eagleton?
I agree we need a skillful, pacy ball carrier most who can break the lines and kick goals.
