Re: 2016 Draft and Trade Strategy

The other thing about Trengrove is that he fits our character down to the ground. Much respected at Port for his leadership, was appointed to the leadership group early on. Would be a sensational get.

I love the idea of leveraging Hoskin-Elliot out of GWS. He's playing in the seconds. He's a local kid. We could get him for well under his true value. I think a general overview of this trade period should be to trade grunt for silk.

Fills the good foot skills test for me. He's had some problems with injuries though.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Besides his high draft position & a good game against us what makes him attractive?

His record when you still down is ordinary.

Do you mean "distill it down"?

Re: 2016 Draft and Trade Strategy

Fremantle are apparently looking into the viability of a McCarthy & Lobb mega trade, on top of the Brad Hill trade (and not looking to give up pick 3). If Fyffe plays next year & leaves next year they only get one pick, around pick 7-9 (moving up the ladder by getting back Fyffe, Sandilands, Bennell and two of these guys guys, plus others back from LTI). But they don't have the trade currency at the moment. So I'm trying to work out how they do it, and this is my best effort to crack it.

If a club offered up a big trade I understand that in current circumstances that Fyffe could go this year in a trade not unlike Dangerfield in that trade is the better value option over a single compo pick next year. They need a couple, maybe 3 mid to late first rounders to pull off the Lobb, McCathy & Hill coup and keeping pick 3. Allowing Fyffe to take a big contract allows them the means to do it all this year. Clubs need to be prepared to offer $1,000,000+ a year.

Dogs could be well placed to jump in, if they wanted to, if we moved the reported $800,000 for Hurley plus a freed up/traded salary (Stevens) to woo Fyffe with $1,000,000+. It goes something like:

                Dogs trade picks 32, 59 & Stevens to Essendon for 19 & 37
Dogs trade picks 14, 19 & swaps 2017 Second Rounder with 2017 Freo Third Rounder - for - Fyffe.

Freo give GWS picks 14, 19 & 22 for McCarthy & Lobbe and pick 34 (which GWS might not even use!).

Dogs: Fyffe, Pick 37, 2017 Third Rounder (1st Rounder, 2nd Rounder, 4th rounder & Stevens, 2017 second rounder)
Freo: Keep pick 3, Hill, McCarthy, Lobb, Pick 34, 2017 Second Rounder (on traded) (Fyffe, Pick 22, 2017 Third Rounder)
                GWS: Picks 14, 19 & 22 (McCarthy, Lobb, Pick 34) added to Picks 7, (14), 15, 16, (19), (22).
Hawks: Pick 34 & two 2017 second rounders (Dogs & Freo) (Brad Hill)

Dogs: Get the biggest, strongest midfield in the comp by adding in an elite kicking Brownlow medallist. Fyffe, Bonts & Stringer could all rotate onball & forward. Still have a mid range pick at 37. Use low picks on rookie elevations/Romero. But it's a lot of picks & Stevens and cash.

Freo: Keeps pick 3, keeps second & third rounders with trading Ballantyne, gets in three very good players that address 3 key needs. Huge result, might even convince Pavlich to stay on.

GWS: 6 picks inside 22. They could stock up yet again, again, again. Especially if Marchbank & Tomlinson go home too. They could have 8 picks inside 25. FFS.

Hawks: Stockpile good picks in 2016 & 2017 to cover retirements in 2017-2019.

Is this essentially how Freo think they can have their cake and eat it too? Or trading Fyffe straight to GWS if he was willing?

I think we could get him cheap. So it's a low risk strategy. And I think he has huge potential.

With trading away their first & second rounders and picks required for father sons, they've got no picks. What do they have in terms of players that GWS want?

Looks like I'm on the ball again. I was flicking through the Hun while grabbing a coffee. But GCS are trying to take the spot of the Dogs, apparently offering the two first rounders & cash to Fyffe. Looks like it's game on for a club wanting Fyffe.

Let it go BT. We will not be going after Fyfe. Getting Fyfe doesn't solve our problems in defence.

But getting Fyfe certainly helps us become a better team and keeping the ball out of our defensive 50.
