Steve Wallis was there. Saw him having a kick with Westy's boy in the breaks.

Bizarre how Stringer can play VFL finals next week as he didnt play at AFL level in round 23, but because Will Minson is playing AFL he is ineligible to play week one of the VFL finals.

Are there exemptions to the rule? From memory Rioli played in our Premiership game (to 3/4 time) without any/many games.

I think it is to do with the AFL bye so they are using round 23 as the first final.

As in the reason Rioli could play VFL against us was Hawthorn's season was still alive.

Minno has well and truly qualified for VFL, hasn't he? Shouldn't matter if he played his week or not.

Below is the quote from the article i read and also the link. Interestingly it also says that Roughead was dropped and is over in Perth as a travelling emergency.

Bulldogs ruckman Will Minson, for instance, has spent the majority of the season at VFL level, before being promoted for Sunday's clash against Fremantle. He is deemed ineligible to play in Footscray's final next week.

"It's an interesting one. It can certainly help some players, but it can be a disadvantage for others," Hansen said.

"If Will has a great game in Perth [on Sunday] and then is in line to hold his spot, I suppose he wouldn't want to jeopardise that by playing in the first VFL final.

"I know Will when he understood the rule was actually disappointed, because he's actually been with us all year and he was excited about the prospect of having success at VFL level."

Just don't think that is right. Here's another rule that contradicts it:

Subject to Rule 20(c) below, a Player who has played in an AFL Home and Away Match after 1 July in the relevant season will be ineligible to play in VFL Senior Grade or Development League Finals Series Matches unless that Player has played in a combined total of at least six (6) Senior Grade or Development League Home and Away Matches in the same season.

Re: Round 21 Footscray Bulldogs v Collingwood.

There is no mention of a player being ineligible for the VFL finals just because he plays in the last game of the AFL season. There is only provision for players who didn't play in the last AFL game but who otherwise wouldn't qualify under the total games rule as above being eligible.

The way I read it, Will is definitely eligible.

Looks as if we will be playing Casey at Casey Fields in first final. Better get the Melways out...
