There is no mention of a player being ineligible for the VFL finals just because he plays in the last game of the AFL season. There is only provision for players who didn't play in the last AFL game but who otherwise wouldn't qualify under the total games rule as above being eligible.
The way I read it, Will is definitely eligible.
Yep, definitely. It's like when a side wins QF and VFL side plays next week. Anyone who missed QF OR has played enough VFL games can play.

It is there to protect the integrity of the VFL finals but in this case where Will is a regular VFL player but was just filling in for a week it doesn't really work.
Perhaps They could add a rule that would allow Will to play for the VFL match but he would not be allowed to play the following AFL game or something?
Long was nominated for the combine so there must be a few clubs interested in him
Just read that Ben Long is Michael Long's nephew and is from the Northern Territory. Anyone know how he came to be playing as the 23rd man for Footscray?

NEW SQUADS, new fixtures and a new team. That is how the U18 Championships will kick off this weekend. A new concept will begin over the weekend, with the newly formed ‘Allies’ U18 squad beginning their division one title pursuit. The Allies brings together the best players from the Division Two states (NSW/ACT, Queensland, Tasmania […]

I've been backing Minson for some weeks to be 'match ready' if he received a call up to AFL level, purely based on his ability to influence VFL games. After watching his disappointing performance yesterday, I am seeing the gulf that exists between being a 'good' VFL player versus making a decent contribution at AFL level. So, can the players you mention Easty make a difference at AFL level? I'm not so sure anymore. It would be a nice reward for effort if at least one of the better VFL players got a spot on the rookie list, but should we cast our net wider and use our available rookie spots for untried players from the TAC?
I stood next to Simon Dalrymple in the game against Werribee the other week. He had his binoculars and was writing up reports at the end of each quarter - no doubt he was at the game to make an assessment on someone playing on the field (and it wasn't Jake Stringer). Let's wait and see what happens in the draft later this year.
