Yep it's strange but it could be an acknowledgement that their midfield isn't as deep as they would like it to be. Maybe they think that Lyon didn't give them a fair go. Deledio and the two Freo players give them a lot more experience if they all play.

Geez I would have liked Deledio.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Would have cost us Tim English. No thanks.

Dal had him as the 7th best player in the draft so essentially its like we had pick 7 to him. Lids isnt worth that.

So true. We didn't have a clacker full of low draft picks to play with.

We also don't have a sham academy where you can use low end picks to pick up quality players due to the rigged bidding system.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

so if we went to the draft with pick 7, we would have taken English. Is this correct?

Assuming the prior 6 drafted players were also our top 6 then yes
I should leave it alone but you're not right

Yep. Dal rated him the 7th best and was very chuffed to get him at 19. Would love to see his list.

We have an academy. We were the ones to come up with the idea of a F/S Academy in the first place. We just didn't think of wrangling draft concessions out of it. Ours is more tutoring and getting together once in a while at Whitten oval for qualified F/S kids. I haven't seen them down there for a while but Libba and Wally and Hunter and Darcy Mac at Brisbane and Mick Romero and Jayden Foster and Rhlee West and Kellet Jr and a few others have been in it. I don't think there's any material benefit like help with schooling or that though.

The Western Bulldogs are well stocked but staying on top is a challenge in itself. Photo: Joe Armao

In: Travis Cloke, Tim English (19), Patrick Lipinski (28), Lewis Young (49), Fergus Greene (70), Nathan Mullenger-McHugh (rookie)

Out: Jed Adcock, Luke Goetz, Joel Hamling, Nathan Hrovat, Will Minson, Koby Stevens.

WHAT THEY GOT: The best ruck prospect in the draft, English, who'll take some time and so was the right player for the right pick at selection 19. They have the list to be able to give him time. Another versatile option in Lipinski, who is good enough to play next year. Some raw developing talls for their forward line. And, of course, Cloke.

IMPACT: They lost Hamling but expected Marcus Adams to reclaim his spot anyway. Cloke if he can rediscover his best would be an enormous benefit; if he doesn't, he plays VFL. Crameri likewise. He was adequately covered when out, now it's on him to reclaim his spot. Nothing in the changes suggest they go backwards, but when you are top staying there is challenging enough.
