Did Dad play in the backline? Getting four inside 50s is a fair effort if he did.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Yes mainly in the back line, but they did press forward a bit, especially in the last quarter

Clearly Lynch's best game - I think the conditions really suited him and Greene who put in his best performance this year from the games I have seen. He uncharacteristically turned the ball over a couple of times, but his intent was 'right' both times.

NMM continued in his role as a forward outlet (played mainly in defence in 2017) and justly deserved the 4 goals he got - he is a fairly accurate kick for those who haven't seen him, but his slight frame probably holds him back in the minds of the AFL MC.

Having said that, Greene is possibly even slighter but has a little more x factor about him.

Porter played some of the game on Davies-Uniacke (pick 4 in last year's draft) who is a much bigger bodied player and probably broke about even with him in contested ball situations. Still too early to make a call on him.

If I was looking to add to the senior side, I would probably only consider Greene as a possible swap for HC.

Altho Jong got his 20+ possies, it is interesting to note that on the Bulldogs website and in today's HS, he didn't rate in the best players - I wouldn't have had him there either.

Should mention Dad - seen a few good signs there yesterday. Hopefully he stay on the field for the rest of the year.
A few norfies are annoyed they overlooked Stephenson for Davies - Uniacke

Time to play the Greene Machine. Those are some good numbers.

I know season is dusted, but should we still apply a principle that AFL guernseys are commodities that should be earned via sustained performance?
I think maybe a motivating word to Greene that he's close, but needs to repeat it over 2-3 weeks.
I really worry that he's not up to a Friday night baptism, against Geelong.
Off the back of a heartbreaking loss, where we did much right, I'd be more inclined to wait.
I've only the dinky AFL X to go on, but Fergus looks like you could break his tackle attempt by sneezing when he grabs you.
Maybe a late season game against Carlton might be a better initiation for him, if his form holds.

Re: Round 12 - 2018 Footscray Bulldogs v North Melbourne

I used my WB membership card to get through the gates and then got out my Footscray Membership card and asked if I could have gotten in with that. I was told no. I paid for a Footscray membership card to get me in all home games, this was a home game so I should have gotten in. No more arguments.

In the VFL match Footscray kicked 4 of the last 5 goals which is a complete turn-around on the last-half garbage that the team was serving up in the previous month or so.

These are my opinions on various players

                Lewis Young
The first half opened up with Lewis Young playing brilliantly. He was the boss of the backline. Great intercept marks and some long accurate clearance kicks. By half time he already had 19 disposals, eight marks, three tackles. Then he went off to become emergency for the senior team. The best player on the ground by a mile despite the fact that he only played half a game, I reckon he was the BOG.

                Nathan Mullenger-McHugh
He was Mr Sticky Fingers. Caught everything and kicked accurately for goal. Seemed to always do the right thing. Kicked straight too. North fans were whinging that they lost key defense players Sam Durdin (eye) and Ben McKay (knee) early in the second half and this may have helped to give M-M an edge. (but we lost Lewis Young in the second half too, and he is better than both of them put together). I am starting to push M-M down the list on my "Players to be delisted at the end of the year" list. Keep going M-M.

                Fergus Greene
He is lightly framed but has some nimbleness about him and with added experience is getting better. He is still not AFL ready but I would prefer him a million times over to Honeychurch or Roarke Smith. One of the better players for us on Saturday. Bev might find a spot for him in the AFL side.

                Callum Porter
His best game for the club. He looks a bit like Will Hayes, but not yet as good. He got into the play more this match than previously but I could still see him hanging off contests waiting for the ball to come out. Contests that I think that he should have been right in the middle of at the start. He can win the contested ball. He has a lot more development to come. He is a better player than Honeychurch, who knows what Bev thinks.

                Brad Lynch
His best game so far. He provided a lot of run from the backline. He looked like an accomplished player. He put in the effort.

I was on the third level and at quarter time went out to buy a pie. The pie stand nearby was not open and so I asked the security guy if he wouldn't mind nipping down to the ground floor and getting me one. He said that he'd love to but couldn't leave his post. I understood when why he said that he couldn't have me mind his post for him.

Just then this derro-looking Norf supporter came waltzing along, trying to stuff a pie into his face. He said that he bought the pie on this level half-way around. I asked him if he would dart back and get me one. He said "What a nerve", and walked off. I yelled out to him as he was walking away, "I was going to give you 20 cents!", he didn't look back. I went and got my own pie - and it was only quarter of the way around.

                Kieran Collins
Did a few nice things. He is on the improve and he played well. Nice pack mark.

                Jordan Roughead
He is starting to get back some of his old form. Probably the dominant big man on the ground.

                Tom Campbell
Not as dominant as previous weeks but still a good game.

                Lin Jong
Improved showing from the previous week. Still not an AFL quality player. I dread that Bev might give him a game.

                Shane Biggs
Some good, some bad. Clearing the ball, little pressure, kicks directly to a Norf player who gets a goal. Shocking kick. Did something similar again, forget what it was. Then other times he was really good, like the Shiggsy of old.

                Will Hayes
Many would have seen him as the best on ground. Looks set to win the Footscray Best and Fairest award this year.

                Reuben William
Looks classy. Ran off with the ball a few times. One time he ran off from a mark there was nothing but 6 Norf players in front of him. If you are going to use your tremendous agility and speed to run around the mark please first of all make sure there is somebody ahead to pass it to! DO IT WITH PURPOSE.

Great review JC. Thoughts on drafting Will Hayes in some capacity?
More of an In Bruges guy?

Regarding Will Hayes. A lot of people would say that he has reached his level and he is good at that level and now he is a bit ripe to be drafted into the AFL. Others say that midfielders are a dime-a-dozen and there are a hundred good midfielders running around suburban Melbourne every week.

Some players blosum for no other reason that they are given more responsibility. I think that Will Hayes is in that category now that Jammo is gone. I think that he is doing every bit as good as Jammo did.

A really good player stands out, they do something that grabs your attention. Has Will Hayes done that, mmm maybe.

I think that with AFL training a player like Will Hayes can improve.

If we do draft him and say rookie him what will we get? An outright champion, a very serviceable player, a so-so player or a dud. I am pretty sure that he wouldn't be a dud. Drafting him. I think to draft or rookie him would be a better-than-average risk.

You look at Billy Gowers and Mitch Hannan and a few others who were drafted. You would have to say that he was in their class, at the very least.

I would draft or rookie him if the situation was right.

In Mitch Hannan and Fristch Melbourne have actually genuinely recruited 2 forwards, who can kick goals. Fristch can also play in the midfield. Why wouldn't we draft Hayes , if his a ready made midfielder ? He seems to get a mention in the best players on a regular basis.

One knock on Hayes is his disposal efficiency - he does get the ball a lot, but can turn it over more so than you would want of an AFL level player. He’d need to improve in this space before I’d draft him.
