Could it be something we are able to do late due to the nature of it (the type of injury and probably an unclear time line and a fair bit of waiting and seeing how it goes)?

Surely if the AFL still do the whole waiving rules for special circumstances then a serious neck injury would have to be considered.

They're allowing Tippett to move to the rookie list, I think there is a chance we could do something like the same

        Re: 2018 Trash n Treasure

I've been reading the 210 page AFEL competition rules. Whilst the Webb discussion being had doesn't seem to strictly form part of the 'delisting-relisting' section, it's close enough to it and in that section the club has to make its case to the AFEL General Counsel by no later than 17 October. The decision is left solely to the GC. - The timing (3 weeks ago) makes sense and is fair to all clubs and the AFEL.

I'd like to think that we would be organised enough, and the AFEL respectful enough, that if this was going to happen that it would be done well before 1.5 weeks before the draft. Plus the Tippett list manouvere seems like the AFEL demanded it in part. The more applicable precedent would be Michael Apeness who was delisted before the deadline and will be rookie listed, but with whom other clubs could steal from under Freo. If we wanted a close enough to very low risk way of moving Webb to the rookie list, we should've delisted him 2 weeks ago (risking paying him out for nada) and have him refuse medicals at other clubs and circulate how bad his neck injury his. But we didn't. There's been no talk of us getting permission from the AFEL GC on Webb and we are 1.5 weeks off the ND. I'd be very surprised if it happened so late in the game.

Weird. They're stacked for developing key defenders.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Just noticed that North have delisted Kyron Hayden who will be re-selected by North Melbourne in the rookie draft.
Would there be any differences in that and say Webb?

Nah. After a bad year, they’re going to try Liam Jones forward. It’s a contract year for him, so it’s a good move by Bolton.

I think that Carlton are so bereft of ideas that they are getting into everyone. They have five players training with them (Goddard, Jed Lamb, Sam Fisher, Jesse Palmer, and Mason Blakey). That said, they do need to get creative as all their picks (aside Pick 1) are 69+

Looks like Essendon are in the box seat to sign Zac Clarke as a rookie

ESSENDON is closing in on a back-up for No.1 ruckman Tom Bellchambers, with former Docker Zac Clarke planning to sign under new AFL rookie rules.

Both parties are waiting on the AFL to give the arrangement the green light ahead of Friday's second list lodgement deadline, because there is still confusion around how the rule works.

It could be the same situation for fellow ruckman Shane Mumford, who is set to come out of retirement for Greater Western Sydney but wants to avoid the draft.

Neither Clarke nor Mumford qualifies as a delisted free agent because they've each had a season out of the AFL.

However, as players who were previously on an AFL list they could sign as Category A rookies between December 1 and March 15 if League headquarters gives approval.

That's bad news for Campbell then. I'd have thought Essendon was his best shot.

                      Edit: that's a dumb rule.

With pick 5, 23 or 41. Isn’t the rule about having a year out?

Yep. Surely it’s in players interests to get clubs fighting in the draft so that he may get a 2 year main list spot, and not a rookie list spot. How did the AFLPA sign onto this?

It was more around if there are no clubs interested in him could we target him for the rookie draft. Pick 23 would probably be about on the money
