      Re: 2019 Draft Watch

We would have to be interested in Hayden Young, brother of Lachie, as he is a quality player who is very likely to go top 10.
He moves well and is a quality user of the football.

        Re: 2019 Draft Watch

Draft Central have put out their June Power Rankings. For us (5 & 23, less an academy pick, so picks 6 & 24)

        6. Sam Flanders

        Gippsland Power/Vic Country | Inside Midfielder/Forward
        24/07/2001 | 182cm | 81kg

After playing as a damaging forward in 2018, Flanders has moved into the midfield this season and been one of the more prolific extractors. While it could be argued his greatest impact is around goals – where he seems to kick the impossible at times – he also has the nous in the midfield to find the ball at stoppages and kick long inside 50, or sweep the handball out to a running teammate. Gippsland has missed his influence and strength in attack, but he has added another dimension to a deep Power midfield. Flanders is a player who will divide draft watchers as he could be top five, or later first round depending on what you look at. He plays taller than his 182cm, and is strong overhead or at ground level. Another top-end Country prospect to watch this year.

        May Ranking: #7

Last month: Rated highly for his match-winning ability, Flanders has also added a no-fuss approach to his game this season with some terrific inside work. He has some of the cleanest hands going around at ground level, with his kicking being a knock when he can blaze away by foot. He is doing everything right defensively, laying nine tackles at the MCG on Saturday, as well as 21 disposals and four marks, but will be keen to sharpen up his set shots, hitting the post on one occasion on his way to 1.2.

        24. Kysaiah Pickett

WWT Eagles/South Australia | Small Forward
        02/06/2001 | 170cm | 68kg

Arguably the most naturally gifted player in the draft, the nephew of Port Adelaide and North Melbourne premiership player Byron, is small in stature but big on X-factor and his ability to do the impossible. He is clean at ground level, has high-level goal sense, and despite being so lightly built, was able to force his way into the Woodville-West Torrens League side courtesy of a massive six-goal game against North Adelaide in the first round of the SANFL Reserves competition. Adds an extra dimension to the South Australian forward line and will be one that could light up the big stage over the next month.

        May Ranking: N/A

Last month: Pickett has managed two League games for the Eagles, booting a goal on debut against Sturt, before seeing what it was like playing on AFL-listed players in the Eagles’ loss to Adelaide.

Will Gould is an interesting one. He's a really strong lad that should dominate the Carnival on size alone (as he did last year), but he's also been putting up great numbers at Glenelg in the SANFL.

I think he'll divide opinion - he's not the tallest and he's a physically-developed lad, but I really like him as a player (and would fit a need for us playing key back). Defends well, rebounds, zones off and takes marks, uses the footy beautifully - he's one I could see being a rolled-gold AFL defender.

He's listed at 191, you'd love him to grow and 3 or 4 centimetres, but I'd happily take him first round at the moment.

Could imagine Brodie Kemp is the type that appeals to us. A genuine utility with athletic ability. Bevo would love his 'versatility'

According to the people who have seen him he can play forward (has done well in defence but seems set to play midfield for the rest of his u18 year). At 192cm he adds height and speed to our squad.

If we did take him I wouldn't mind to see him developed forward as he builds his tank for midfield rotations. Plenty of kids have come into our system that way (Ward, McLean to last year, Dunkley etc)

Wouldn't mind Vyvyan on the list - hard at it midfielder. Neil could provide some height at either end.

Some write-ups on a few Vic Country players that might in the the mix for us courtesy of AFL Draft Central

                              #12 Lachie Ash

With his co-captain Serong, Ash set the tone for a big day in the first term by collecting 12 disposals up to the first break. He basically did as he pleased behind the ball, intercepting, rebounding and the scoreboard soon offered flexibility for him to take on risky but demanding kicks to advantage. He had some smart defensive moments too, spoiling a one on one contest while out of position, before winning the ground ball and earning a free kick. He just took the game on whenever the opportunity presented and while he got a little cute on occasions, the good well and truly outweighed any turnovers. He finished with 29 class disposals to be in the best on ground discussions.

                              #16 Brodie Kemp

Many expected to see Kemp play as a big bodied midfielder during this competition, but with Vic Country lacking tall defensive options, the Geelong Grammar scholar has played defensive 50 in a position that is very familiar. He complemented Ash and Young perfectly, holding his position when required, but coming off his man and impacting the aerial contest when the opportunity presented. While he occasionally used a fist, by the end of the day he was reading the play so well that he was in position to take nearly every mark in his area. His hands and skills were good and he’d also take the game on when space opened up ahead.

                              #17 Hayden Young

Young wasn’t as prominent as against Metro the week before, but the intercepting half back was still very, very good. He got going in the second term with multiple intercept moments, highlighted by a one on one contest against the much bigger Conroy where he used his body to perfection to win the ball and begin an end to end chain that resulted in a goal. He flies for his marks and takes on his kicks, making him arguably the best offensive weapon in this year’s draft despite playing behind the footy.

looking forward to seeing some of the SA forwards like Taheny, Morris, Coff & Pickett during the nationals. Was very impressed with WA boys Taylor, Bennell and Henry against Metro. Loved Taylors goal in the last 1/4

This is where we have to address deficiencies on our list. Skilful goalkickers!
