Re: 2019 Draft Watch
Right.
1/. So Dev Robertson is CLEARLY the best player in the champs so far, yet is not top 30? Fair enough, he hasn't played against the Vic Country kids yet but he was arguably BOG in the first 3x WA games (2 wins, 1 loss) and last time he competed against his own age-group - the u16's champs - was the best midfielder, won the medal and was all-australian. And he is the nephew of a former AFL captain (Darren Glass). Not top 30?
2/. Elijah Taylor omg. OMG. Has played mids at WAFL level all year and forward at the champs. Is 185cm tall, jumps over the moon, understands time and space like no-one else in the draft...what is the actual problem. Must be the fact that he has played forward every game - even deep forward at times - and still been successful and kicked goals in EVERY GAME. What else is he supposed to do?
I know I have a WA bias but if they beat VC tomorrow they will win the championships. WIN. And they currently have 4 players in the top 30 - NONE in the top 15 - and when you read the review of their top rated player (Rivers) it says the following:
"He loves to tackle and put his body on the line, and is a crucial key to the midfield of Western Australia at the national championships."
To which I say:
1/. He has played almost exclusively at half back.
2/. In the last game (vs the Allies) he had 23 touches and 1-ONE TACKLE.
I know that actually watching the games is not a pre-requisite for writing content for a recruiting website, but for goodness sake - at least take a glance at the stats!
(That said, Rivers is a good player and has lots of AFL-ish skills and SHOULD be in the top 30 - will prob be AA - but calling him a hard tackling mid is simply a joke).
Right.
