Round 13 – 2019 Footscray Bulldogs v Port Melbourne
Re: Round 13 – 2019 Footscray Bulldogs v Port Melbourne
Wonderful performance away at Port considering it was the same team that lost to lowly Collingwood last week at home.
The win means we leap from Willy and Port into 3rd spot.
A win by Werribee at home to second placed Essendon tomorrow would put us right in the hunt for top 2.
Could be a season defining win.
Well played boys!
Thanks to Smads and look forward to his report.

Sweet 60 Hitouts
Dale Morris finished with 11 disposals & five rebound 50s in his return from injury.
The details above probably tell the story of the day.
Maclean was the cleanest player out there - wasn't just 30 possies, he tried doing something with them, as best the conditions would allow. Played up/down ground as a true midfielder would. His last goal was clever in the goal square.
Another strong in/under game from West. Hasn't put a foot wrong really in his first year at the club.
I mentioned in an earlier post that both Dale and Hayes were having an impact on their respective wings and it made a difference after quarter time having playmakers of their ilk running around in the RWB.
Cavarra had a great game as that small tackling forward - reminded me of Dahl with his intensity.
I want Lynch on the backline - not this forward line caper he has had to put up from time to time. With a bit of space off half back, he was daring the Port players in the second half to 'come and get the ball off me' - I really enjoyed watching him play today for the first time since the Collingwood game earlier in the year.
Sweet was clearly the dominant big man on the ground which was pleasing to see as his opposition was quite experienced, but lumbering. He not only had the better of ruck duels, but was able to execute some good skills at ground level in ordinary conditions at times. Much better game than last week where I thought he played just 'so-so'.
Across the back half, Buku, Le and La Young all played serviceable games, focussing on punching the ball (versus trying to mark a very slippery ball).
Gardner had a much better game than last week and played solely back and ruck relief, while Roberts was used as a swingman and was probably 40% back/60% fwd. Played ok at this level (VFL) as you would expect.
And finally Dale Morris - constantly directing traffic, easily played 80% game time, took a while to get a kick (but he has never been big on possession stats). In the 3rd qtr, he brought down Port's lumbering ruckman while he was running towards goal and 2 minutes later intercepted a certain Port goal. He would be a very happy man I suspect, with his return to the field for the Dogs.
Special call out to the following VFL players - Scott (could have been another option if we hadn't taken Gardner mid year - smart ball player), McComb, Nash (good to see him back), Gleeson (got a lovely kicking action for a forward), William (really liking the move fwd - always threatening), Wally (does what all Wally's do...), Sullivan, Drummond, Vojo-Rainbow (ex-Port) and little Aaron Trusler who has impressive speed but is no taller than Caleb.
There is no sadder sight than a young pessimist.

Smads spot on. McLean going into middle part way through 2nd made the difference. His snap fr goal square in last quarter in horrid weather was something special. Cavarra was great as well. Not just the 4 goals but pressure acts and 2 possibly 3 goal assists. Not selfish either. Saw him run over 50 m to congratulate Hayes on a lovely running goal from fair way out. Really, really like Ben and reckon he will be good in seniors. Smart, minimal fumbles and a real team player. If he remains uninjured I am quietly confident he is the small pressure forward we have been looking for. A better kick in field play and for goal then Dahl too.
Josie :)
Our day will come
And we'll have everything.
We'll share the joy
Just like '54 again.

Western Bulldogs chuffed with big Jordon Sweet today. Had 60 hit-outs and 10 tackles against Port Melbourne. ‘He’s developing really well, coming along nicely,’ VFL coach Daniel Giansiracusa said.

Thanks Smads, amazing stuff.
My first impression of Trusler the other week was that he was about the size of the smallest Russian Doll in the very centre of all the other dolls once they can’t get any smaller....he’s not very big is what I’m saying
Park that car
Drop that phone
Sleep on the floor
Dream about me

He is short, but he has a go and is fast. Should have kicked a goal in the 3rd qtr but otherwise applied good fwd pressure along with Cavarra
