Re: Collingwood as a Trading Partner 2021
Pass. For now. If you read the post I quoted, they need about a late first rounder this year to avoid a deficit next year which would cruel them. They also need salary cap relief. They want Lippa.
We have a late first rounder, possibly swaps too. We can take on a large salary and/or more of Treloars wage. Lippa is our player for the moment.
So we can help them on picks, player and cash. But only if they are prepared to trade a gun player. With a new coach committed to a rebuild, they have cover to trade a big name for long term gain. We can help each other if they are prepared to trade a gun.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Collingwood as a Trading Partner 2021
Our offer is simple. A First Rounder, a possible 2022 swap, Lipinski and taking on more of Adz wage in our cap.
They avoid a deficit, have some later presence at the draft this year, keep their 2022 First in tact, an upgrade next year, Lipinski and their salary cap finally fixed. That seems like a great outcome for them. In light of that outcome maybe they reconsider who they might trade. They’ve made a huge mess. But this could fix it. If they won’t put a worthy player up, then they can try to fix it inadequately and harm the rebuild. Either way works for me.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Collingwood as a Trading Partner 2021
Ironically it's been exactly 100 years since as an ambitious VFA club we took a Collingwood captain (Con McCarthy 1921) away from them. It'd beca nice way to celebrate the centenary.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Just read an ESPN article, which in part was echoing what this thread has been getting at for a while now. Collingwood need to either hurt their rebuild to avoid a deficit by trading future picks to get picks this year (downgrading a top 5 pick next year would be disastrous through a deficit), or, trade a very good senior player that fixes all their issues (points, picks, players cap) in a one swoop slingshotting into the rebuild. So it’s clearly evident that Collingwood might have to let a gun player go. I’m hoping Sam Power is there to see if that’s a possibility. We are clearly linked with them already.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

I think it's more likely to end up some sort of 3 way trade where Pies get Lipinski, 'someone else' gets something from Pies and we get picks from that 'someone else'.Comment

Re: Collingwood as a Trading Partner 2021
What I struggle with is, if we are trading out our main draft currency for this year along with one of the players who could gain us more draft picks, aren't we hurting our own ability to get Darcy and avoid a deficit?
I think it's more likely to end up some sort of 3 way trade where Pies get Lipinski, 'someone else' gets something from Pies and we get picks from that 'someone else'.
Then it’s Pick 19 (on traded for a Draft Point surplus), Wallis compo, JJ for a points trade (several later picks). The future pick/s to cover whatever the deficit is. - Roughly speaking without breaking out a calculator. Plus who knows if another trade request comes?Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

And we couldn't reduce their commitment to Treloar because that deal is done.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

I’m not suggesting anything with Lippa at all. We are free to take on more of Treloar’s salary if we were suitably incentivised.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

As per our discussion in another thread. My reading of the AFL Rules just now and understanding contract law indicates there is scope in certain circumstances. I can’t say much more. I’m happy to acknowledge if I’m wrong, but I don’t see where there’s a prohibition on contract renegotiation in certain circumstances. If you can point me to where it’s prohibited I’m happy to say I got it wrong.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Collingwood as a Trading Partner 2021
Say a Grundy/Moore - for - First Rounder, Lipinski, possible other upgrade and a small Treloar contract renegotiation (say $100,000 x 4).
We aren’t buying picks, or illegally manipulating player values. If the cherry on top is extra cap relief, and the full $900,000 is declared in the joint TPP’s and the AFEL obviously sign off on it (with no apparent grounds in rule or law to fight it) and Treloar still gets his full salary. Then I see no issue with that trade getting signed off.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment
