Two rookies tomorrow or will they hold back?

Ethan Phillips missed out. Heard him on SEN and he talked well. Surely someone needs a KPD

I’m certain it will be one pick. Baker in the SSP in lieu of a second rookie pick. Milesi was pretty clear we are interested in him and he’s not registered in the draft.

I think Oakleigh Chargers had 9 players drafted. Might get one or two more tomorrow.

Luke Teal stiff not to be selected. There is a lot of upside in him.
Will Elliott should have some interest.
            Drury should get called.

                Elliott

                Gillbee

                Others?
Montgomery is a good mark for his size but more of a 3rd tall defender type which I think we have covered with Khamis and O'Brien.
Drury is more of a midfielder and also a small forward but isn't quick. Clarke and assuming Baker coming in might be a challenge for him.
Bennier has some size and can clunk a mark and play forward or back which should appeal.
Teal is a neat kicking defender but projected to play on a wing.
Elliott missed the year with an injured knee but 202cm ruckman forwards should have be sought after.
Phillips is a 23yo 198cm key defender and should find a home
Gillbee is a versatile utility type defender and would be a good pick.

There is another batch of players that we might be interested in as well.

Seems like a great state league player, and in a position we don’t need. The best things that regularly come out of the rookie draft are rucks and small forwards. I’d rather one of them myself to address need. Do we need another like Sullivan?

                      Re: 2022 Draft Watch

While I'm expecting us to choose Lachie Sullivan in the rookie draft I would still like to see us try

                      Seth Campbell
                      State: Tasmania
                      State League Club: Tasmania Devils
                      Community Club: Burnie/North Launceston
Date of Birth: 29/12/04; Height: 182cm; Weight: 73kg

A crafty forward who is a smart player and has good speed, agility and neat finishing skills. Averaged 19 disposals and kicked 16 goals in 13 NAB League matches for the Tasmania Devils to be one of the side’s most consistent performers. Dominated a TSL match at senior level for North Launceston in August, kicking 10 goals from more than 30 disposals, which highlighted his progression this year. Tested impressively at the Draft Combine for speed and endurance, recording a time of 2.98 seconds for the 20m sprint and 6:25 on the 2km time trial.

                      or

                      Brandon Leary
                      State: Tasmania
                      State League Club: Tasmania Devils
                      Community Club: North Launceston
Date of Birth: 13/05/03; Height: 177cm; Weight: 72kg

A small forward who has the innate ability to make something out of nothing in the forward line. He kicked 33 goals in 14 matches for the Tasmania Devils in the NAB League. He also averaged 13 disposals and three tackles a game to win NAB League Team of the Year honours. Continued to kick goals with the Allies at the National Championships, converting five goals in two matches. His speed and agility were sharp during testing at the State Draft Combine in Victoria, recording 3.02 seconds for the 20m sprint and 8.2 seconds on the agility test.

Campbell made the cut for age eligibility by only 2 days. One of the youngest in this year's lot. Kicked 10 in a game at senior level. Seems a perfect rookie choice. Leary, an over ager, always kicks goals, every game no matter the opposition.

                          Teal really stiff.
                          Ethan Phillips surely gets rookied
                          Cleaver a rookie chance?
Gillbee is a 190cm wing/utility who can run IIRC
Leary as a rookie small forward may appeal to some clubs
Kyle Marshall dominated the SA combine as developing KPD/ruck

With the likelihood of many rookie spots being opened up next year, why not tell Sullivan to back it up and he’s got us calling his name next year where he’s sat one of three picks used and not our only pick this year? (Or even mid season with an injury) Is a question I’d ask of Sam Power.

Other clubs are grabbing great rucks and small forwards out of the rookie draft, while we are taking VFL players with limited success.

It seems to be a bit of a cultural philosophy which I don’t mind in essence; I would prefer we grab a kid who has missed the main draft though.
