It feels strange saying it as a bulldogs supporter but we are going to need to stock up on mids in next years first round!

I think you are right. I almost think we missed a trick in not downgrading pick 11 once the good mids all went and perhaps getting a couple of picks in the teens.

Am happy with Jedd as he will fill a need, but I can see a real issue with mids coming on and they need a couple of years to build a tank.

We just need to keep hitting the draft. Two midfielders tonight and another few next year.

It seems our list build is coming along nicely.

                Re: 2022 Draft Watch

A somewhat predictable but still a very interesting first night:

Essendon put pick 5 up for grabs but knocked back some very good offers. Was it ever actually up for sale?

Bulldogs place a bid on Jaspa Fletcher to ensure Bevo's comments at the B&F that Brisbane would need to "Pony up" came true.
Make no mistake we are now officially in feud with the Brisbane Lions but I honestly think that is where we rated him.

Swans made sure their cross town rivals GWS overpaid for Harry Rowston and then used the pick they got for Jordan Dawson against Adelaide to make them pay full book value for Max Michalanney. To top it off they then traded the pick to the Hawks.

Collingwood got a great deal getting the highly rated Ed Allan so late and then GWS with the last pick made sure West Coast didn't get the local boy in Darcy Jones.

                Whats next?
Do we place a bid on Alwyn Davey to disrupt Essendon?

Who are our two targets tonight?

                  Pick 24

We have been linked most notably by Cal Twomey with Charlie Clarke, Lachie Cowan, Ollie Hotton, Jakob Ryan, Brayden George, Henry Hustwaite

                  Pick 39

We have been linked with Tom McCallum, Caleb Mitchell, Shaun Bennier, Adam D'Aloia, mature ager Rhett Montgomerie and I understand we have at least spoken to Joe Richards & Anthony Munkara

Given we have taken a key defender would that likely put a line through Cowan, Ryan and maybe McCallum albeit they aren't really key defenders?

No I don't think so. Cowan and Ryan are quite different and with us would fill a wing position I would suspect. Both would be a good fit and I'd be happy with either as I think they will become very good AFL footballers. Ryan in particular has high disposal efficiency and reminds me a bit of Isaac Smith.

Lewis Hayes unlikely for us given Busslinger was our first pick. Could probably say the same for Jakob Ryan?

Harry Barnett is available as the best ruck around. Olli Hotton probably the best mid?

                        Hope we bid on Davey.
We have been linked to Hotton - forward/mid with a decent 2km time so real wing scope.

Every chance a team trades up to 21 to take Barnett, Swans like him but they burnt their bridge with GWS yesterday

I wouldn't be surprised if we do consider Bennier ay 39 as that hard-nosed shutdown type, very different to Buss.
If we don't get Clarke/George/Hotton at 24, I suspect Leary may also be in the frame at 39.

I want us to bid on Davey if the Bombers don't trade ahead of us. Highest recorded in-game speed for the year! Kid has serious wheels (they'd be crazy not to match).

                            Re: 2022 Draft Watch

The Age are reporting that Melbourne are strongly after the GWS pick. Melbourne are suggesting a ruckman is their interest (i.e. Barnett).

If that happens. It's then just WCE ahead of our pick with likely five of George, Clarke, Ryan, Hotton, Hayes & Cowan for us to choose from.

I'm getting fanatical now. Bid on Davey. Force Essendon to part with the pick right after ours (25) and offer Essendon good compensation for it (Pick 39 and 60 for 592 draft points to get get Davey and Pick 66 after the bid) and a F2. (Obviously we can’t use a protected puck to ‘steal’ Munkara as we gave them that pick too). Then the earliest bid on Davey is 26 or just 526 draft points after discount). So they get two second rounders out of this, Davey this year and the F2 plus the Pick 66 after the bid for possible points for Davey Brother &/or Munkara. We use two picks in the high 30’s and a pick we won’t use to move into Pick 25 to snatch up a slider.

Huge win for both clubs. Then it's a back-to-back choice of two of George, Clarke, Ryan, Hotton, Hayes and Cowan - to add to Busslinger.

                            Let's get it done.

At least if we do find ourselves short in the middle it is easier to trade for a quality midfielder than pretty much any other position because there are so many of them. Much harder to pry out a top line KPF or KPD and you pay through the nose if you can manage it.

We can always raid those feeder clubs in Western Sydney or South East Queensland for young mids like every other club does.

Hotton is a name I jotted down when watching the champs.
He had something about him, moved well and looked quite skilful.
