Re: VFL Round 9 Footscray v Gold Coast - 2022
VFL player summary: Round 9
Jamarra Ugle-Hagan
13 disposals, six marks, three goals
Jamarra had a big impact on the game - not just on the scoreboard but also by creating a great contest around the ground. He was much more dynamic in this game than previous weeks which helped him create separation on his opponents. He left some scores out there unfortunately, but we were happy with his performance.
Jamarra Ugle-Hagan finished up with 13 disposals, 6 marks and 3 goals in Footscray's Round 9 loss to Gold Goast.
Hayden Crozier
25 disposals, eight marks, three tackles, six rebound 50s
Hayden was one of our stronger performers in the back half. His ability to help out his teammates in the air was a feature. We were set up really well behind the ball, repelling a high number of the Suns’ inside 50s which Croz led with his voice. He makes our younger players comfortable in their positioning.
Sam Darcy
12 disposals, seven marks
Sam is learning to play in our defensive system, and we were really happy with his ability to transfer education into his performance. He played on some mature bigger-bodied opponents this week, which is great for his development and learning. Sam’s ball use was exceptional & often started our scoring chains with brave kicking decisions.
Josh Schache
10 disposals, three marks, two goals
Josh played a mix of ruck and forward for us again this week. He battled hard around the stoppages and found ways to help the team defend multiple times. He was unlucky not to capitalise on quite a few dangerous opportunities throughout the game, but as a forward he competed hard and hit the scoreboard when we needed him to.
Charlie Parker
21 disposals, 10 rebound 50s, one goal
Charlie had a change of role this week, playing as a defender with a lot more game time. His ball use coming out of our back half was impressive. Charlie is adapting to our defensive system and is getting to work on his contested and defensive craft.
Dom Bedendo
13 disposals, four marks, one goal
Dom played on the wing for a whole game this week. We are trying to find ways to fully utilise his skillset of having a big engine and a good aerial game. He did a great job helping our defence on our own goal-line, and also had opportunities to take marks in our forward 50 as well. He is building every week.
Arthur Jones
15 disposals, six marks, four inside 50s
Arthur also played all of his game-time on the wing. It was great to see his aerial courage, halving many contests on his side of the ground and then also intercepting when he could. He is working on being a little cleaner at ground level. With the amount of contests he can get to with his running ability, being clean is a very important asset to have.
Cody Raak
16 disposals, six marks, two rebound 50s
Cody played down back again this week and had some nice moments. He showed physicality in marking contests at times, which really helps our team defence. There were a couple of defensive lapses in his game that we’ll work on this week, but he is a young player with a great hunger to learn and improve, which is a great trait to have.FFC: Established 1883

This will be the make or break I feel with Arthur becoming an AFL player with his skill set he needs to be a grab player and use his speed to get separation because he won't get time to fumble the next level up.

At least the extended highlights gave more context. Last goal was charity but he really should have had 2 more that he earned from that.Life is to be Enjoyed not EnduredComment

Have to be impressed with those 2 inboard kicks from Darcy. If he reaches his potential, it’ll solve a lot of long term problems for us.
Our spine of Darcy, Gardner, English, Marra & Naughton could be incredible in 2-3 years if they all continue to develop like we hope. Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.Comment

It will be very interesting to see how we develop Darcy over the remainder of this year into next... reading between the lines it sounded like he would paly his first few games 'behind the ball' before moving forward, but given the gap in KPD's on the list hopefully we persevere with him in this role.Comment
