His ACL pretty much blows up a big FA offer.

The only way I could see him going (and I don’t now) if if they’ve over committed to other free agents expecting to lose him and they trade. They have current Pick 20, and us Pick 15 allowing for the bye from Lions. If that would get lost in getting Croft, then perhaps a trade of Pick 15 for Doedee and Pick 20. Then we split 20 into points. But very hard to see that happening. They’d need to see real value in the upgrade and we’d needed to have committed to him.

But realistically, I think the guy and the Crows have been dealt a shit hand. Lever came back great after his ACL so it can be done, but plenty haven’t. The risk for us to pursue a big dollar play here seems far too risky. With our mountain of cash, it might be time to look elsewhere.

Current FAcnames on the board still include (of some note): Himmelberg, Redman, Gresham, Ben McKay, Parish, Menegola etc.

They have apparently gone all chips in for Mason Redman, so there may well be more to play out with Doedee.

Not a free agent but Xavier O'Halloran from the giants is OOC end of 2023.

Has not cemented a spot yet and the limited I’ve seen of him he looks ok.

                Anyone seen much of him?

I actually think you are right.

Speaking of thinking of someone else, I had him confused with Perrymen from the same club

                      Re: 2023 Free Agency

I'm getting to the stage of not wanting anymore cast offs. I think we give too many opportunities to players that haven't made it elsewhere.
Sure there maybe players that play in roles already taken by a club star and not getting an opportunity but we should make our own talent get the kids in see how they go after a few years and if the signs aren't there dip in the pond again until we unearth the gem.
We have invested to much time, money and effort into players that can't make the difference.
Look at Treloar who has the odd few games and then becomes fragile and Lobb who is he really doing any more than Buku could have done. Lets not mention the Mc's on the list even Poulter and Baker although have shown something is there room for improvement or are they at their ceiling.
In saying all this would mean a heavy reliance on your scouts and talent pathways but maybe we need to set some guidelines that if a player hasn't shown enough after 4 or 5 years in the system out they go and another takes there place from the draft.
I'm not a list manager and maybe this is too simplistic but this could have been our strategy after 2016 when the list was very talented and at a good age to start rolling the unknowns through the draft.
Getting in players from other clubs maybe good for the short term but would we have a more consistent list over the long term and as stars age and get near the end hopefully we have the talent ready to replace them.

I agree. I would like us to use all of our draft picks on good young players and build for the future. Free Agents of course are free

Isn't he a mid that is being shoehorned onto a flank as he's not ready for mid rotations?
I love the Jets link (IIRC) but if we are going to trade, it should be a position of real need.

Reading Himmelberg has been offered 5 x $700,000 by GWS. And that other clubs would expect to pay $800,000 which if GWS miss the finals gets GWS a top 10 pick as compo which would be enough for GWS to not match the bid. Also that clubs might pay the extra to acquire him as a free agent.

Watching him today, 26 touches (10 intercept) and 12 marks with 430 metre gained as a KPD -

Should we look to use our vast salary cap reserves on him? Using the cash of say $800,000 x 5 years to acquire him without a trade. He’s an instant huge upgrade on the current versions of Keath & Bruce (retiring both for salary savings). Then next year our main three KPDs are Jones, Himmelberg & Gardner with Buzz & JOD as slender guys acting as the ‘third tall’ types with Cleary.

It might also buy us some time to see if Croft is a KPD or KPF - while still holding our two first rounders and and taking Croft first round too.

Side issue: that compo pick and two matched bids pushes our current picks out to 15 & 19. Twomey has Croft at 13 right now. So we either trade ahead (say GCS or a GWS pick) - or trade them for established good players?

BT I?m neutral on Himmleberg. I think we are way down the queue if we are interested.

Personally I wouldn?t be trading our picks for established players. We need to bring younger high end talent in.
