Same here. It makes more sense to bring 3 draftees in.
GIven we have stuck with Coffield it might limit us chasing a taller DFA
Next year we have something like 21 players with expiring contracts. That's massive.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"👍 1Comment

I can, we have lost quite a bit of experience and depth from our backline in Duryea, Jones & JJ, we must obviously see Buku as more a forward option, plus Coff's run with injuries has been horrific to say the least and "hopefully" with a full pre season he can finally start showing why he was drafted so highly, i'm backing him in.Comment

Placing Weightman on the LTIL and bringing in Sellwood and Walker (albeit as rookies) in the MSD has added to this as well.
Then having to upgrade JOD has factored into it.
What looked like a reasonable level of flexibility with list spots has quickly tightened a bit with the retention of Khamis and Coffield.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

As much as I like him, we really should have traded Buku. I get we were trying for fair value, but it probably doesn’t get much better next year.when he’s out of contract.

First up Axe, many thanks for the continual list management updates.
Perhaps this is the answer to my post in the contract thread about matching the Darcy bid.
Currently we have 14, 33, 70, 74. The last pick in the draft with any points attached to it is 54. 70 & 74 may come in to somewhere around 54 with other clubs bid matching but it's still difficult to see them being enough to match a Darcy bid.
Do we slide pick 33 back into the 40s plus a future 3rd or something along those lines?
I do have a question because you mentioneded
Contracted Players = 39 (33 Primary List, 5 Category A Rookies, 1 Category B Rookie)
Open List Spots = 4
If we have 39 players listed now and we can build back to 42 are you suggesting we can go to 43 given we have 4 open spots?
There was some talk of clubs being able to list 1 Indigenous player as a rookie and I assume that means as a extra?

Carlton were the only club interested or at least that's how I read it. For a variety of reasons mainly linked to Curnow they didn't offer anything of value for Khamis.
I do underestand what you are staying but I'm glad we kept him. He was worth a pick inside of 35 in my opinion.👍 1Comment

I think we would have been open to a fair trade if Carlton had spent any time on it in the final days, but it seemed like they made an initial offer for Buku then didn't revisit it because they were locked in Curnow talks for the whole last day.Comment

We can have 42 players total between the primary list and category A rookies.

We currently have 38 + 1 category B rookie in JOD. The complication is that we expect JOD will have to be upgraded and that will use up 1 of the available 42 spots, leaving us with 3 vacancies.
I am ignoring any potential category B rookies that we could add (up to 2). These are in addition to the 42, as you mention.

In my opinion Carlton went cold on the Buku trade , because fair enough they were tied up with the Curnow trade but im dam sure that if they really wanted Buku , there was nothing stoping them still talking to us all the last day , only needed a Carlton representative not the entire drafting panel to make a decsion , he could have picked up the phone and said , the dogs want pick (whatever ) the Carlton hierarchy say yes or no , and that convo could have lasted all day , but they obviously went cold on the trade and didnt want to give up anything of consequence , and personally im glad Buku stayed he will be all out to prove not only to Carlton that they made a big mistake not taking him , but personally that his better then both clubs think he is .Comment

I will try and find out more from one of the residents in my building who works at Carlton

With Liberatore and Treloar most likely in their last seasons in 2026 and a chance Sanders will be the target for Tas, should we be looking for a midfielder at the National Draft?
Will Bontempelli, Richards, Freijah, M.Kennedy, Garcia and Hynes be enough even with potentially Butters coming in?Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Would like to hang on to Sanders if we can. I think he will be a real influence on games when he reaches his potential. With Liberatore and Treloar most likely in their last seasons in 2026 and a chance Sanders will be the target for Tas, should we be looking for a midfielder at the National Draft?

Adding Butters it looks like a great midfield. Without him, I agree with BAD that we would still have a very good midfield.
Saying that, if we spotted a real talent within reach of our picks, you can't gave too many quality mids. Especially when Bont. Freijah and Richards would still be match winners playing elsewhere.
I most like the idea of adding a Gulden type winger and wonder if Lindsay or Barker could come close to being that?Comment
