Funny how he has fallen out of favour. Was hit with injuries this year which didn't help

Yeah very true injuries certainly wrecked his seson but surprisingly ,Mitchell's form this year proves that he can still play at the highest level. He averaged 23.3 disposals and six tackles from his four games , but do you take a risk with him when we have the same thing happening with Adam Treloar .
But if he could get himself fit could he be a valuable asset for a year or two ?.

Just my thought regarding bringing in a mid. We have a couple of older midfielders in Liberatore and Treloar and 2026 is likely to be their last season with us so I question the logic of bringing in another short term player option. Mitchell is/was a very good player and would provide a lot of depth but I don't think he would be a great option for us at this stage. It could happen but I doubt it.

Totally get where your coming from Gary , its just a pity to see a player of that caliber going to waste , at 32 i think he has at least two very good years left in him if he can stay fit , which is the big proviso , staying fit , because as we all know Treloar is in the exact same boat as Mitchell .

We're not getting rid of Jack Macrae one year then picking up Tom Mitchell the next. I hope Mitchell finds a spot. There are plenty of clubs where he would play each week.

No thanks to Tom Mitchell. A good player who finds the footy but not what we need. Rather take a punt on Sam Frost (not a great option but at least an area of need).

I'm a little surprised we have given Coffield another season.
Perhaps there is some consideration that he is in a better place from a medical perspective

I think once we couldn't trade in a tallish defender, the club probably thought we better keep him for deepth.

I thought that keeping Buku filled that hole tbh, but it really depends on where we see Buku, Croft and Walker playing next year.

                    Key defenders:
                    Lobb, JOD, Buss, Gardner

                    Medium defenders:
                    Sellwood, Cleary, Coffield

                    Small defenders:
                    Bramble, Dale, Budarick, Jaques(?)

                    Swingmen:
                    Khamis, Croft, Walker

                    Rucks:
                    English, Smith

                    Mids:
Bont, Ed, Libba, Treloar, Matt Kennedy, Sanders, Harmes, Freijah, Luke Kennedy, Gallagher(?), Garcia

                    Wings:
                    Williams, Davidson, Baker(?)

                    Key forwards:
                    Darcy, Naughton

                    Small/medium forwards:
West, Weightman, VDM, McNeil, Arty, Hynes, Dolan

jazzadogs has kindly listed 39 players
Clubs are allowed up to 44 players with a mix of 36 to 38 primary listed players
Clubs can also have 4 to 6 rookies and 2 Cat B rookies.
When players are selected in the National Draft they are placed on the primary list
We have to be a bit mindful that we have enough picks, points and spots to bring in Will Darcy
This is giving me the impression we could trade our 2nd round pick on draft night for a later pick.
Perhaps we just select 2 players at the ND and we can top up with the rookie draft or SSP.

That is my take. I think he is lucky, but he is going to have to fly this year to get another.

Perhaps this is the answer to my post in the contract thread about matching the Darcy bid.

Currently we have 14, 33, 70, 74. The last pick in the draft with any points attached to it is 54. 70 & 74 may come in to somewhere around 54 with other clubs bid matching but it's still difficult to see them being enough to match a Darcy bid.

Do we slide pick 33 back into the 40s plus a future 3rd or something along those lines?

There are only 57 list spots/likely picks, according to AFL.com, so I think 70+74 should come in quite a bit.

                            Let's say Darcy gets bid on at pick 40 - that's 238 points, with a 10% discount it's around 200. Pick 30 - approx 400 points with discount.

Pick 48 is worth 100 points, so if they slide in that far and the bid comes late then we are set.

I wonder if 33 + 70 for Collingwood f2 and 45 could work as a potential trade, if we anticipate an earlier bid and want to move 33 out...

Coffield and Khamis both being retained is one too many IMO. I don't see either of these two moving the needle in 2026 - they are what they are and it's ok to have one of them as depth, but both is overkill for mine.

That is a very likely scenario. We might just Draft one player before Darcy.
