BTW when saying Wallis went for a 1st round pick you also need to remember it was a compromised draft and the pick was at 22.
From my recollection Wallis was first and Libba 2nd. Once Wallis was matched our next pick was 40 odd so no one had to pick until then. I don't think its a coincidence that Sydney used pick 39 for Libba.

No doubt. Even back to Cordy, I think he was pick 14 or something like that and St.Kilda had pick 13 (the one just before us)....

Whatever rule the AFL put in the place the clubs are smart enough to get around them and they do.

I have thought a bit about this and think the round you use should reflect on how many games a player played for your club. Foe instance 100 gmes equals a first round pick 150 a second round and so on and so forth . Would like others thoughts on this .

Can we please speak about Lachlan. Every time I open this it is unrelated to the subject.

I guess this is no different to 75% of the threads that get started. Nature of the beast I guess.

No matter how I look at this I can't figure out what you mean that is viable.

Is it based on games the father played? Because thats completel unrelated to the sons worth. And if it's how many games the player goes on to play, I have no idea how you change a draft pick in retrospect.

The current way the rule is applied with the bidding process is pretty much as good as it's going to get. It keeps clubs accountable and has shown that players that aren't as highly rated won't go in the first round. With the draft being so importnt for clubs to get right but remain fair I think the fact the Viney will go with Melbournes pick 3 or 4 instead of 64 is reassuring.
I should leave it alone but you're not right

I don't see how this is an issue at all. If we didn't think Libba was worth it at pick 40, we could have said no and forced Sydney to take him. If, for example, a 2nd or 3rd round player gets a first round bid just to make us use our first round pick, we can always stick it to the bidding club by making them pay overs. They do have to stick by their bid if we say no.

On Lachie, anybody have any video of him?

Maybe we need to not be so open(in the media) about wanting to take these guys as F/S's as all the clubs all new that we want Cordy, Wallis and Libba bad and weren't worried about having their bluff's called.

I just don't see the value in a team bluffing to force our hand. For instance, if the Saints genuinely didn't want Cordy why would they even contemplate risking pick 13 on him for the sake of ensuring we don't let him slip to our second selection?

Surely clubs are more worried about what they have to do to maximise their own list spaces without having to worry about what other clubs are doing to maximise theirs...........
                      TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Perhaps the title should be changed to Father/Son selections.

Lachlan is a potential F/S selection, and my post was in answer to a proposal that we keep the profile of our potential F/S selections lower to limit the chance of other clubs forcing our hand. Not directly related to Lachlan, sure, though probably relevant I would have thought.

His stats look great from the last game. 37 touches, 10 tackles and 3 goals.
I'll def be heading down next week to take more of a look at him.

Good game again by Hunter on Saturday. His team got thrashed by over 100 points but he still managed to kick 3 goals. Some of his handballs are Libba like.
He's working hard both ways and he looks much more fitter compared to last year. Of late he's been a bit clumsy giving away a number of free kicks, needs to cut that out of his game. His endeavour and attack on the ball can't be questioned though.
