Gonna be interesting this year re: Melbourne. Todd Viney's son Jack is eligible & many people see him being taken with one of Melbourne's first round selections. For that to occur, you would imagine GWS or Gold Coast having to bid with picks 1 or 2, that's assuming Melbourne finish 16th.

If we finish in the 13th-15th bracket then for us to be forced to use one of our first round selections on Lachlan Hunter, the team bidding would have to be pretty sure of themselves. If he's not seen worthy of using a pick 5-7 by us, then some team could gamble & lose.

Pretty sure we'll be using our 2nd or 3rd rounder on him.

Highly doubt we'd use a pick in the top 10 on him. It's not justifiable.

Todd Viney is an interesting one because he's genuinely worth around pick 3-5.

Whats stopping someone going for Hunter with a round 1? They know we want him so why not call our bluff?

We have an abundance of inside mids and I doubt Hunter is worth a top 10 pick. If another club wants him that badly we should just let him go. At this stage he's worth a 2nd rounder IMO.

Nobody would risk it. I'm hopeful sentimental thought does't come in to the equation, particularly when it's likely 2 x top ten picks would be on the line. If somebody wishes to attempt to call our bluff and want to throw a single figure draft pick at Hunter then good luck to them, it will just free up another player for us to choose.
            TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

Is it only teams that finish below us that can force us to use our first round pick on him?

Agree - no point paying overs for any player - regardless of his families association with the club

It would be an interesting exercise for clubs to analyse on average whether father/son picks have a higher propensity to play more games than a non father/son picks taken in the same position post the 'new' father/son drafting rules

Hopefully with families like the Wallis' and Cordy's we'll uncover at least 1 real gem out of several prospects - ala the Cloke's & Collingwood example

I've heard that the next Cordy on the production line is exceptional.

                      Would that be Deuce Cordy?

We wish. He would be called something like Tres then

I think Zane no. 2. Deuce is a make believe one.

                              Re: Lachlan Hunter?

I think the whole clubs putting in a fake bids to force others to take father sons prematurely thing is a myth.

Why would you take the risk? Even if the risk is worth it for the rest of the league collectively, why would one club agree to take the risk upon itself? Why would Melbourne take the risk instead of GC/GWS etc?

The risk is pretty big. Get a player you don't think is worth your selection. The reward? Force 1/17th of your competiton to take a player early. The teams bidding need to be before and it would only really help a club with a selection closely after the father son selection.

Imagine our club got a player with a bluff selection, how pissed off would we be?

I think the myth starts because we think of our competition in a collective manner here but of course they are seperate with their individual needs.

Just a quick report on Hunter. He played in the Metro, Country scratch match. Was barely sighted early on but really improved as the day went on. Kicked a couple of goals and had a hand in at least one other. Foot skills were good again and are becoming quite reliable. Shows a bit of class.
