Once again we are joined by Williamstown Coach Peter German as he casts his eye over another good win for the Seagulls on the weekend.

Watched the game on TV but had a couple of distractions.

I thought Addison did pretty well and was in and winning a lot of centre clearances.

Very impressed with some of the efforts of Jones as the game went on. Incidentally noticed that he is very good on both sides.

Question on Rose. Obviously very good this week, but I have an impression that he has not matched what he produced in 09. He seemed to be playing inside 50 most of the time.

Does this mean that he has failed to make the transition to be a midfield option that the Dogs were looking for ?
If so does it jeopardise his rookie spot ?

He still had 10 shots on goal - my query is that he doesn't offer us anything different to a short marking option., Yes he's smart, but if we could find a crumber they'd be closer to a debut than Rose IMO (ie Hooper's elevation).

            Yes
Rose did have 10 shots on goal, but his season had been unspectacular. I am concerned that he is just a small forward and he was told he could not make an AFL career from that.

I do see Hooper having more upside and he has had a better year overall.

Are you sure he was slated in as a genuine midfield option? I think he could spend some time in the middle but his best value was always going to be as a small forward.
Even a couple of Williamstown guys I speak thought he was recruited to back up the small forward players.

Nothing against Rose but with the power of hindsight Little would have been a great pick up for us.

Part of the training pre draft required Rose to show that he could do enough to run through the midfield. Whatever testing they did indicated he could do it. I noticed he played more midfield early in the year, but now seems to have reverted to the F50.

Feel he may not be producing what the MC would like.

Rose reminds me a bit of Paul Hudson albeit without his immaculate kicking. He is a very clever small forward. He is very dangerous around goal as he has a knack of finding space and a strong mark for his size. He uses his body cleverly in marking contests. He isn't the roving ground level type. It remains to be seen whether he will ever make it as a midfielder or midfield option. I'm not sure he has the engine and possibly the ground level skills for it.

Hooper I think will have to improve quite a bit to make it as a small forward. While recognising he is still young and finding his feet, as a ground level player he missed some real bread and butter goals on the weekend that a good opportunist forward should never miss. If he can't nail those it will be hard for him to make it as a forward.

Rose seems to be finding form now and I think is easily the better player as it stands now. I also think Rose would be able to handle AFL footy if called up. Don't think Hooper is ready just yet.

Agree with what Doc has had to say about Rose.

I don't think he will make it as a midfielder/runner but I think the work he did over pre-season to play there will bode well for his potential AFL career. Having an engine is invaluable any position you play in the AFL.
