To me he should be keeping out of the packs and letting the more experienced insiders get it out, maybe he is trying too hard , maybe its under coaches instructions I dont know.
But I think he is more an outside player anyway.
I have rarely seen him one on one, would like to see his skills that way.
His kicking and decision making make him unsuitable to play as an outside midfielder at AFL level. His first instinct whenever he gets the ball is to chip it sideways, or pop it up to a target 20m in front of him, his kicking also lacks any sort of penetration. Plus he's too slow to play outside.

I imagine he would be couldnt see him tagging.
I see him as an attacking winger but not playing as wide as Eagleton did.

The game was good today in that it did not give us a false sense of achievement about our 2011 season

Further, the better, and more deserving team won - and Ayers and co's achievement is significant, an undefeated season and premiership

I think the game gave us some good insights into where our players and list are at, but I wouldn't make too many definitive judgements on young players who did not dominate.

A VFL grand final is still a pretty good standard and I don't really expect 1st or 2nd year players to dominate. For example, Wallis had a very good first quarter but found the going tougher after that, as did the whole team.

            Panos was good.

Pass marks to Addison, DJ, Howard and Minson. None great but did some good things and kept trying.

The rest very ordinary. Roughead is the biggest disappointment, seems to have gone backwards this year. Just doesn't seem to attack the ball and hit the pack hard enough.

Just wondering if the club will go to the trade table for a ruckman?
Minson is never going to be the number one !

Gotta be kidding Addison coughs the ball up ( yeah he tries hard that's a given).
Minson got beat by a Bloke rejected by two clubs!!
Roughy's got time on his side, Minson should be carving up that opposition.

I didn't think German reacted to the game that well and was very late or just reluctant to make changes. In the last quarter we had to step it up and got caught taking too many chances.

Full credit to Ayers and the Port side. Fantastic team effort.

Trade him out then who do we have? Our other potential starting ruck was running around today and barley doing anything either. Minson is a band aid until someone better comes along or until Roughead and Cordy develop.

Yep. Maybe we needed more numbers behind the ball? Mulligan moved? Hahn moved? Something.

Re: VFL Grand Final - Port v Willy

So we had the best AFL aligned team in the league, who were beaten by a seriously good, undefeated team. I know some of the players didn't look great, but it seems some people have had a bit of a over-reaction, many of who probably just watched their first game of the year (not so much here, more BF and the FB page)
Congrats to Port, they deserved it

After today though, Hill, Stack, Hooper, mulligan, Addison and Reid all to go. Also trading Minson should still be looked at although he is probably our best ruck man.
Agree about the above, when the intensity went up Hill backed out of a contest, Stacks decision making is appalling.
Minson is the most uncoordinated footballer going around. I would look at trading him now whilst he has some value, I would look at a mature aged ruckman as a replacement to assist Roughy in his development.
Addison, Reid gone. Hooper will not make it IMHO does not have enough tricks for one so small. Mulligan was dreadful.

Wallis doesnt have blistering pace, the tank or the long penetrating kicking ability at present to play as an outside mid at AFL level - he simply wouldnt gain enough metres with the ball

One on one as we saw yesterday he got beaten by older, stronger oppoenents playing in the backline once he become fatigued

I think his best bet for 2011 at AFL level is to play as swingman between a defensive forward and HBF

He is only 18 and still has a lot of endurance to develop

What were Boyd and Cross doing when they were 18? Playing in the Frankston and Werribee reserves?
