Thats right. I read on Wikipedia that Junction Oval along with the MCG and Albert Park were used as military bases during WWII and that St Kilda had to move its home games from the Junction Oval to Toorak Park. St Kilda returned to the Junction Oval in 1944.

I don't play footy but my local footy club is the Vermont Eagles who play in the Eastern Football League in Melbourne's East. I believe we recruited from Vermont Alex Greenwood. Im not sure of any other Western Bulldogs players who were recruited from Vermont.
My local football club was Braybrook which produced many League players for the Bulldogs including five who won WB Best and Fairest awards in Whitten, Donald, Walker, Bisset and Hawkins. Former Brownlow Medalist Brian Wilson was another from Braybrook. Robert Groenewegen, Ivan Marsh and Gary Merrington were others who played with the Bulldogs from Braybrook.

Kirean McGuniness was from Wantirna which is where we lived previously before we moved to Vermont South.

                  Yep.

I played with Will Thursfield. Very surprised that he made it onto an AFL list. Was ok without starring. Had better players in the side that got nowhere near it.

I read that he was born in England and moved to Australia at the age of 5.

Our local footy club is Avondale Heights - which produced a couple of VFL/AFL players -

                      For us - Peter Baxter ( 23 games with Footscray 1985–1988 )
Other teams - Matthew Lloyd (Ess) & Brad Lloyd (Haw)

In the neighbouring suburbs (Bulldog Players) -
East Keilor Football Club - Mathew Hogg
Strathmore Football Club - Scott West and Adam Contessa

Glen Waverley Rovers Junior Football Club - Simon Garlick (Our Current CEO)
Wantirna South Football Club - Kieran McGuinness who I mentioned in a post before

Glenelg has had a few Bulldogs come and go thru the doors

                          Ins:
Adam Contessa (worst SANFL recruit ever)
A bloke whose name I have forgotten for a minute who dislocated his shoulder 5 minutes into his first internal trial about 4 years ago and never played again (someone Mc Someone)

                          Outs:
                          Shannon Corcoran
                          Christian Howard

Outs then back again to Glenelg:
                          Tony McGuinness
                          Jordan McMahon

There must be others but none off the top of my head.

Lin Jong with David Smorgon in the interview on EMT said he went to Brentwood Secondary in Glen Waverley. A few of my brothers friends know him. His club was the Oakleigh Chargers in the TAC Cup. Lots to look forward of Lin Jong in 2013.

I don't really follow local footy that much but also if anyone is interested the Eastern Football League Preliminary Final between Norwood and Balwyn will be on tomorrow at 2:10pm at Bayswater Oval. The winner of this prelim final will play Vermont in the EFL Grand Final at Bayswater Oval the week after.
