Finish watching iView and some good efforts by Tutt, Veszpremi, Macrae and Stringer. I think we need to see how they go against better opposition. Coburg ready dropped off after half time.

Casey could be a good indicator going by the ladder at the moment.

I liked Pearces game alot. He has a nice leap and a very good attitude. Aggressive and competitive.

Wood killed them in the ruck.

Re: Round 3- Williamstown vs Coburg

Macrae is ready to go, aside from his ball winning and disposal I was impressed with his pace. There was a chase down tackle where he was moving very, very quickly. The seniors inside mids would want to perform today as we need more outside ability in there and Macrae fits the bill.

Stringer has it all, love watching him get stuck in to the opposition and sprint away to an open goal after a mark, he's a cheeky bugger. Needs to work on his fitness, it will be frustrating for him as he is too good for them down there but he doesn't do it for long enough, even in the VFL.

Veszpremi was good, but we have plenty of Vesz's up forward where he does his best work, which is why we sent him down back. Tutt looked better than Howard but seems more attacking, not sure what his best position is. Grant sorely lacks intensity.

Talia & Howard don't look confident with the ball in hand, need to work on their decision making when in possession. Austin & Markovic are average, they won't push anyone out of the side and will rely on injuries to get a game.
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

Interesting Redpath was listed as BOG in a massive win yet only kicked one goal. It's possible he may have played in the ruck.

More good name in the best players for the Bulldogs players

More interesting that Campbell got the nod over Redpath who maybe better suited to the 2nd ruck role.

My step-dad used to be a sports trainer for Jake's team. After a training session, he said to Jake "You know, you're not as good as you think you are Jake!" to which Stringer replied "Yes I am.", and walked away.

The thing is the really good players always have a air of confidence and swagger. As long as it's not like Cassius Clay we'll be right.

It's been a long time since we've had a player with that attitude AND the talent to match it.

Yep I thought he was good also, and is developing nicely

His defensive efforts seem good, he is a guy that starts with reference to his man, and then attempts to work off them - and they are using him more midfield this year it looks like.

He still looks a bit young physically which is encouraging as he'll gain a fair bit more strength and become pretty powerful you'd think.

I thought Vez looked the fittest I'd seen him and was very good also. Its not out of the question that he can force his way in to the seniors.

Everyone else has pumped up Stringer rightly, but Im with the camp that would push for a bit more fitness before promotion - with Easton Woods hammy in mind. What I really loved was the way he encouraged Grant, Vez etc and was genuinely delighted for them when they did something good - it oozed leadership to me. A mate wondering about how Stringers game would translate said to me, but how will he deal with AFL level, and I just think he'll do exactly what he does at VFL level, phsyically muscle guys around and bustle them off it and kick goals.

His game is based on physicality instead of finding space and he doesn't seem to have a problem with disposing of the ball under pressure which means, after a settling in period, it should translate pretty well to the big stage.

I still think he's some time away fitness wise.

The issue is going to be that VFL is still predominately traditional man-on-man, static role in nature. There is a fairly standard 3-4 man stay at home forward line the majority of the time in most games. AFL conversely has migrated to a giant basketball game. Stringers legs are still clearly an issue as is his fitness based on Q4 on Saturday. He clearly couldn't/wouldn't cope with the running 80m from home and tearing back toward goal 20 times a match required at the moment. If he could play a plugger stay at home forward role he will kill it but he can only cope with bursts currently so he's probably still a fair way away. Happy to take LOTS of time with him.
