If you are confident in your playing ability you shouldn't have a problem with the deal. If I was Grant I would be after some injury insurance in that deal but if he can hold his place in the seniors the extra years will be added.

If I was in his position I'd want both years guaranteed.

For all we know Brisbane are offering 3 years or more cash. Maybe he's already made up his mind to go there.

So on this basis we should offer every one of our players 1 year and say, "what's the problem? If you're good enough you'll earn a second and a third!"?

Crameri should stay at Essendon because if he's good enough he will play the 4th year at Essendon that we are offering.

There's a bit of a difference between a guy who's won the club's goal kicking 3 consecutive years and a guy who's managed 58 games in 6 years and was only a late season form reversal away from being delisted.

I think it's pretty clear the club thinks Grant is a coaster, and that if they offer him a straight 2 years, next year is likely to be a write off before he again pulls his finger out in the final year of his contract. For me he's in no position to be demanding anything more, he's never shown any consistent output and is still trading on the potential tag. If another club wants to take the chance he'll one day come good, and we can get adequate compensation, I'm happy enough to lose him. I suspect if he gets a 3 year deal at another club you will see him play a lot of lower league footy in the next 24 months.

No, just long term players with no consistent form to justify anything more.

Club's aren't charities, if you don't deliver on game then you have no right to expect long term security. I'm alarmed at how much stock people are taking out of a few good games late in a season.

This is a guy thats produced a handful of decent games in 3 years.

A 2 year deal is fair enough IMO. He should be thankful for the show of faith Macca gave him which lead to the turnaround in his career and im sure he can understand why he needs to earn that extra year.

I have no problem with making him sweat. None.

My posts are only based on IF they trade him for pick 30 owing to a games clause second year as a sticking point.

I think if they trade him for pick 30 rather than give him a guaranteed 2 years they are announcing they have no faith he's ever going to consistently apply himself. If they feel that way then best trade him now while his value is reasonable.

Got a god awful feeling we'll trade Grant for pick 28 and give both 22 and 28 to that lot.

Would be disappointed in this if it happens.

The Grant scenario is very similar to Josh Hill and Everitt situation, we waited a year too long on those trades.

We're all saying Crameri is only worth pick #22 but Grant is in the exact same position right now and you've got people asking for more?

Crameri has stated he wants to leave.
Grant has not.
