Does it matter? If we see Billings as the best player available at 4 then thats who you draft.

In some ways I think versatility is a key component is assessing players unless a player is clearly a key position option. Billings is an accomplished player and 12 months back I rated him highly. This year however, the times I have seen him he has struggled to run out games and I think he was often playing with injuries.

I can understand why we would be very interested in him but I do think he will struggle to be a midfield option in the first 2 or 3 years at a club.

Yep, that's where the 'best available' option fails. For example if your ruckmen stocks are full, why take the ruckmen if they're the best available at your pick, especially that high in the draft?

It's best available for your needs now and the next two-three years.

Billings falls more into the small forward option. After yesterday with Grant re-signing, and our drafting in recent years of Hunter/Dickson/Dal etc, not so sure that small forward is a key need this in the next 12-24 months.

We're not drafting for the next two to three years. We're drafting for the eight that follow that.

If he can't be a midfield contributor as well as a forward at the age of 21-22, but can be at the age of 24-25 then I'd be OK with that.

We could probably add Hrovat and Tutt to this as well. I'm not knocking Billings, who might end up a Nathan Brown type forward or midfielder, but on what he displayed this year and the forward line we have then it's a harder pick for us.

Well its official. Melbourne have traded pick 2 to GWS for pick 9, 53 and Dom Tyson. Will this affect who will be available at our pick 4 seeing as GWS have a loaded midfield with youth? Could Aish fall to us?

I read recetly that Silvagni was a huge rap for Kelly, so he could lob there with Boyd. Depends then on what St.Kilda do.

Well its official. Melbourne have traded pick 2 to GWS for pick 9, 53 and Dom Tyson. Will this affect who will be available at our pick 4 seeing as GWS have a loaded midfield with youth? Could Aish fall to us?

Very good deal for Melbourne. Watch them target Freeman with pick 8 now.

Actually it appears that Melbourne has traded Pick 2, 20 and 53 to GWS in exchange for Tyson, pick 9 and pick 53.

It's still a good deal.

Yeah good deal for the Dees. Tyson is an excellent player when fit and pick 9 will net a decent player

Do you have anything in mind that you think we could do? I've given it a few minutes and other than pick 4 and someone like Roughead I'm not sure we have the pieces.

It would take a bold decision, something that might cause short term pain for long term gain.

I can't think of anything as it appears GWS will get Mumford. Takes Big Will out of the equation (not that I wanted to trade him), but they needed a big ruckman.

I cant see it happening, we'd have to lose a Griffen, Libba, Wallis etc plus pick 4 which is just to much.

I would go with something like Pick 4 and Wallis and maybe another fringe player.

As much as that would hurt, given Mitch's connection and passion for the club.. But i think he's a player you can cover much easier than say a Roughead.

I doubt GWS will give up pick 1 though. If they landed Franklin then maybe.
