Re: Footscray vs Frankston
Shakes head. They didn't play last week as well so that's 2 weeks he hasn't played. For a young kid pushing for selection, all season may I add, I think that's pretty poor management.Comment

Re: Footscray vs Frankston
He was, and agree an odd decision. I guess someone had to play that role and maybe one of the senior guys had a late fitness test?More of an In Bruges guy?Comment

Re: Footscray vs Frankston
It's the 2nd time it happened. He didn't play in Bendigo because of this, not sure if it's happened before or after that. He's a first year player, if we don't think he's in the best 22 play him VFL don't hang him out to dry.Comment

Re: Footscray vs Frankston
As much as I love Gia he is taking up a spot for these young guys to play. When a side is not in contention for any sort of final appearance would Gia be better of using his experience being a on field coach and player at Footsceray.
Honeychurch could have had Gia's spot.
I know Gia kicks goals and his presence demands the ball but in terms on our ladder progression it's not working and he won't be playing next year so let's get some runs in the kids.Don't piss off old people

I've never had a problem with Gia as sub, still don't. I don't mind that one of our vets is playing that role and our younger players are getting more game time those players would normally get the sub role and get 1 full quarter. There are positives and negatives for the Gia weekly sub.Comment

My thought is to make Cooney the sub but I don't think that was well received on this forum. Cooney has more pace and can play in more positions than Gia and can inject some pace when the game has opened up or slowed down.I've never had a problem with Gia as sub, still don't. Re: Footscray vs Frankston
No issues with that at all HotDog. He's under contract next year and I wonder if he'll play that role a little in 2015. I'm in the camp of if Cooney needs rest then just rest him altogether. We've got a lot of heat on us right now, the coach will be under the pump with the board asking for better results. I doubt Coons will wear the vest from here on. Gia may play more as well.My thought is to make Cooney the sub but I don't think that was well received on this forum. It's good to see Darley doing well. There is a spot in the senior side for him if he's good enough to grab it.'And the Western suburbs erupt!'Comment

Re: Footscray vs Frankston
Listening to Macca this morning it sounds like Honeychurch will be in next week if not that very soon. Redpath sounds like he's not going to be in the side anytime soon on top of that.
Scorlibo: Regarding Darley. There is a spot there. Why not hey? What do we have to lose? I heard he was very good yesterday. Both he and Hunter statistically look like they put good games together.Comment

Re: Footscray vs Frankston
Yep, the stats on top of Slim's review indicate he played well. Still, I'd like to see him back it up next week before giving him a run in the seniors. As far as I'm aware it's the first time he's been anything better than just average. Question is, if Higgins is out, who fills the void? Do we give Goodes one last run at it? If Darley backs up next week then Goodes can always be pulled back to Footscray.Listening to Macca this morning it sounds like Honeychurch will be in next week if not that very soon. Re: Footscray vs Frankston
Hunter, JJ, Stringer, Talia, Roberts,, Cordy, Campbell & Jones all need to fulfil their potential if we are to open up a window in 3 or 4 years time. I'd like to see a number of them getting senior game time. I'm interested to see Darley at senior level, too. What have we got to lose at this point??
I think our list is currently the second worst in the league, yet our 23 & under grouping is in the top 4. We essentially have some great over 30's and some great under 23's.. However our 24-29 year old bracket is so light on, it's an indictment on our recruitment from 2002-2008. And everyone knows, the 24-29 grouping is the most important one to be a competitive league unit.
We are going to be pretty average for the next two years. Alastair Clarkson couldn't coach such an under and overripe list to finals. However, two years from now, we'll have a list which is more skewed 19-26 and evolving towards 22-29 over the ensuing three years.
That's when we'll be back in the groove, but until then, buckle up! In the short term, I hope Darley and co can show us something. I'll be watching Footscray closely over the next 3 months.Comment
