    Re: Upcoming Movies

I saw Snowtown today. Is it possible to hate a film you really liked? Because I thought most everything about it was excellent except for the fact that I spent 2 hours wanting to get the hell out of the cinema. Very disconcerting.

Was that due to the subject matter?

Obviously the subject matter is pretty gruesome, but the story is told from the point of view of one of the men who was an accomplice and his backstory is pretty grim. Bunting's emotional manipulation of the kid is scary to watch.
There is a couple of awful scenes of torture but it's more just a relentlessly sparse and harrowing film. I admire it and for a film to make you feel that strongly emotionally is indicative of the quality of it, it's just not easy to sit through.

Seems like a compelling 'companion' piece to last year's Animal Kingdom. I'll be sure to check it out.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Here's a review that sums it up reasonably well

              Re: Upcoming Movies

Have seen a few comedies lately.

              Bridesmaids was hilarious.

Bad Teacher was bad (not in a good way!!)

Friends With Benefits was a great chick flick.

                Re: Upcoming Movies

Wifes been trying to get me to watch Friends with benefits, not sure I am keen though. Seen Bridesmaids thought it was good but not as good as all the reviews were suggesting.

                  Re: Upcoming Movies

I want to see Friends with Benefits but I hate Justin Timberlake and can't take him seriously.

Inbetweeners movie is out in the UK now, I want it to be released here already!

Friends with Benefits / No Strings Attached. Same Plot/Premise. Only in Hollywood can two movies like that come out in the same year

Weird that the two leading ladies were both in Black Swan together, which is 100x better than either of the rom-com slop they've served up with Friends with Benefits / No Strings Attached.

Finally saw the Fighter on DVD and thought is was pretty good movie.
Funnily enough the boxing was secondary in the movie, it was more about Mark W character struggling with doing what is right for him without hurting his family.

Soupaman I know its a been ages since you posted this but why did you need to know it was the last fight? Im not sure how that would've made the movie any better or worse.
Personally I thought it was obvious it was the last fight of the movie as it was for the world championship.

Saw The Green Lantern last week (not by choice).

The absolute worst movie I have ever seen ever.

Which is why I'm not touching it with a 10-foot pole despite my WOOF username being chosen in honour of the character (my favourite Silver Age comic book superhero).

Massive budget too -- what a wasted opportunity. First mistake was hiring Ryan Reynolds. Not enough gravitas for the role: the character in the comic books has a pretty heavy personality (and ends up destroying all of reality at one point), too much depth for a lightweight playboy like Reynolds.

Don't remember the movie too well (forgot I'd even seen it until your quote) but I don't think the movie made it clear to me that it was the big fight. I understood it was a competition for the World Championship, but I'm used to movies like that having several big fights so they can have all the different fight stoylines ie. First fight he is a massive underdog, second fight the other guy plays dirty, third and final fight the hero has to choose between losing for money and the safety of his family from dirty bookies, or winning which inevitably leads to the revealing of his bringing the friendly detective in so that the betting ring can be exposed.

Not sure it made the movie much worse IIRC, it was just that I was sitting there after the fight watching the movie close up and I was surprised because I didn't realise the end was so close. To me it felt like a footy match ending at 3 quarter time.
I should leave it alone but you're not right
