'It is with heavy hearts that we advise that we will not be reopening post this lockdown. The financial impact is simply too great.'
Two Melbourne pubs close down, saying they cannot survive COVID lockdown

Two pubs in Melbourne’s west have announced they will be closing permanently after the new COVID roadmap was confirmed.
Both the Mona Castle in Seddon and the Morning Star in Williamstown have made the tough decision, saying the financial impact is too great.
The Victorian government’s “safe and steady” pathway out of the state’s second wave is likely to keep Melbourne under strict lockdown until the end of October, with only minor tweaks.
“Wishing everyone well in these crazy times and wanted to say thank you to each and every one of you for making the experience of living in and owning a pub an enjoyable one we will look back on fondly,” the Morning Star owners posted to Facebook on Monday.
“It is with heavy hearts that we advise that we will not be reopening the Morning Star post this lockdown. The financial impact is simply too great.
“We thank the patrons, staff and local community with all of our hearts!”
The Mona Castle Hotel posted a similar message on its Facebook on Sunday, saying it was no longer run by owner Gary Clough.
“Thank you all for your support over the last 15 years it was great to know all our wonderful patrons & know friends. Hope to see you all again soon,” he wrote.
Overnight, Daniel Andrews shared a graph with modelling from the University of Melbourne and University of New England.
He said if the ‘Stay at Home’ COVID restrictions were ditched, there would be a 60 per cent chance of a lockdown by Christmas.

I'm not going to dispute that C-19 is serous and that people will die as a result of it, but watching from afar I do think the Victorian response has been absurdly OTT.

Just had a great meal at the Railway Hotel in Yarraville. Very good Parma.
Back in the 1980s when I was working in Anderson street I saw an armed robbery go horrifyingly wrong on the corner outside the Railway hotel. There were dead bodies ( one without a head), blood everywhere and a bloke trying to push his intestines back inside his body. It still triggers me. Yarraville has changed a lot since then.

Are you boys from WOOF?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Sounds scary Twodogs. A lot of those inner city suburbs probably had similar type of things go on back then I’m sure. Good vibes in Yarraville today. Certainly is one of the gentrifying suburbs in Melbourne.

It was horrendous. I'll never get the smell out of my nostrils.
Funnily enough I used to go to school with the guy who was the licensee of the Railway hotel at the time. Lovely guy. He was a bouncer at many venues around Melbourne (Prince of Wales, the Corner, the Lounge, the Esplanade) too. He died from a heart attack nearly 30 years ago.
His brother Con wrestled in the WWF and in Australia under the name of Mr Damage. I understand he was quite well known. His dad Alex Iakovidis was a well known wrestler on Australian TV in the 1960s when Jack Little had the wrestling show on C9
