There are some exceptions of course. I recently enjoyed one at Cinder that was exceptional, while have also had great steaks at Fitzroy Town Hall and Marquise of Lorne.

Usually if I do I'll go for a flank or cut that isn't eye, rib-eye, porta or scotch to make the most of the temperatures professional kitchens can generate over and above the ones I can at home.
I guess im lucky as my local is pretty much a paddock to plate venture when it comes to the beef. They get it from the local butcher who grows and butchers his own beasts(Black Angus). Bonuses of living where our produce comes from.
    The curse is dead.

      You are lucky.

I never order the steak myself, especially these days as they are way over priced and I can cook them just the same.

When I go to a restaurant, I try to order something I don't make at home.
At a Pub, a bit different as food is basic, and not many good choices. A Parma is fine as long as the chips are good (which is also rare these days)

I have many many times. It is the best. They do it properly and put the chips in the Souva.

Is that so they can feed you less meat thus increasing their profit while making you think you're getting a better deal?

                  Don't answer it's a rhetorical question.

Interestingly was reading that the chips in the Souva is a relatively new thing. Last twenty years or so, however it's what you get if you're over there now apparently.

No way would the Greeks be that cynical!

My favourite souvlaki is Lambs on Spit on Malvern Road near the corner of Chapel Street.

They have an excellent lamb lovers pizza, as well.

My favourite souvlaki is Tasty Souvlaki in Fairfield, which was the first place I ever had the chips inside the souv. When I went to Greece I couldn’t believe that they actually did that there.

Tasty Souvlaki isn't bad at all, used to live a close walk to it. Spitaki wasn't bad either.

I'll happily concede that chips in a souvlaki do actually improve it, but the profiteering sticks in my craw a bit.

If by chips you mean more meat and less lettuce then I agree.

I prefer more meat and my chips on the side
