    Yep, Botham the bowler.

Handscomb and Marsh need to build a partnership

Good finish - Australia just ahead, but need Handscomb and Marsh to push on and get us closer to 350.

English bowlers didn't really do much - quite a dead pitch really. reckon that the 4 Australian wickets were given away cheaply

They bowled far too short, especially Anderson.

Why would you send a team in and bowl short?
            TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

I thought there was a little bit of movement when they pitched it up later in the day but they spent the day bowling too short.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

We have them worried. They know they wont get the movement that they get in England; They know that pitching up will feed the sweet spots of the aggressive Australian players. If pitching up is employed whilst it make get wickets, it will also leak runs. What they are bowling at the moment is dot balls. Not because they are good balls, but because the Aussie batsmen don't need to hit them.

If Handscomb and Marsh can get through the first hour we are well placed to build a solid score but really one of them needs to get to a 100.

Games with the pink ball tend to be low scoring, with a lot of wickets falling in the evenings. I would go hard early tomorrow and send them in when it's dark

If we bat close to 2 sessions that is the ideal scenario.

I think from where we are, 350 would be a good start to the test.

Marsh has a huge opportunity to quieten the doubters with a big score here. Would be a big disappointment if he gets to 50 or 60 odd and capitulates.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Don't think that was what Joe Root had in mind - his bowlers simply didn't execute their plans properly. You need to give the ball a chance to swing in those conditions and that means pitching it much fuller. Might mean you get slugged for a few boundaries in front of square but it will also create more chances to take wickets.

I dunno why but that made me laugh. You're probably right, that wouldn't have been what Root had in mind when he inserted us. But that's the beauty of an opener like Dave Warner-pitch it anywhere near too full and its flying to the boundary. He almost makes bowlers pitch it too short to him.

And what's with Handscomb's stance? It's certainly interesting, it's almost a baseball batters stance with his bottom of his bat nearly touching his right ear.

England needed a few more wickets to justify its sending the Aussies in .
