Brazil will win the whole thing if they can figure out that Firmino is far better than Jesus and leaving him on the bench is criminal. Firmino and Coutinho know each other inside and out and together they are very hard to stop. Tite needs to see it if he wants to win it.

They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Watched the Sweden/South Korea game last night. South Korea very poor and played a more defensive way compared to the more attacking style they used to play. Sweden win via a penalty 1-0.

Will probably watch again from 10pm tonight Columbia and Japan. We are up again in a few night v The Danish.

Columbia (probably the favourite to take out Group H) are having a first up nightmare that might just end their world cup. Deliberate handball stopping a goal and resulting in a red (and a scored penalty) in the 5th(!) minute.

They managed to equalise on 39' and, for the most part, neutralise Japan (who have had 60%+ possession but have lacked any attacking venom) but Japan have just turned in a corner on '73.

The game is starting to open up and I wouldn't be suprised if Japan get another against an opponent thats had to play practically the whole game one down.

                *Edit: Ended 2-1
Note: Second fastest red card in World Cup history. The last time these two teams played, Colombia beat Japan 4-1. What a massive world cup moment.

The first time an Asian country has beaten a South American opponent at a World Cup final tournament ever. At the 18th try.

                    Remarkable stat.

They got lucky but they made the most of their luck.

Defenders just have to keep their arms by their side inside the penalty box. They wave their arms about at their own peril. Nine penalties in the tournament is a lot though.

I thought the free kick that Columbia scored from was 50/50 at best. A clear foul to Japan at any other reading. Japan should have dealt with it though. The scorer virtually just rolled it toward the goal.

I think I read the most penalties in a world cup has been 18, that record is going to be smashed with VAR. Also 6 is the record for own goals and there have already been 5.

Japan is getting itself quite a reputation for sporting upsets.

From the Cherry Blossoms knocking off the Springboks at the Rugby World Cup to taking Colombia to the cleaners, their sporting prowess is building.

The Europeans and South Americans can no longer afford to underestimate the Asian teams. The respect is building.

Wanted man: Sainsbury attracted big offers after half hour against France

Apparently Trent Sainsbury's manager was fielding phone calls before half-time of the game against France. He's had preliminary offers from two English and three continental clubs.

I'm confused . So the columbian gets a red card and sent off for hand ball in the box but the French don't get sent off for the same thing.

Correct. You are, they do but apparantly they don't don't have to, no.

The official (also known as the bullshit) explanation will be that the handball has to prevent a goal scoring opportunity. But Mile is running in expecting a chance of a header at the far post. Why did he do it? I don't buy the brain fart "I think I might have a go at volleyball right now", he touched the ball to stop it getting to someone.
