They're essentially betting that Luka will be Leonard/Zion and not trusting his conditioning, lifestyle, body and don’t want to pay him what would be the biggest contract in NBA history.
In saying that, they could have got a heap more if they shopped him around.

Just feels like the Mavs are placing a big bet that life will not be rosy with "Future Luka" and they believe the AD/Kyrie partnership is 'something'...let's face it, the West is pretty open right now with OKC the only stand-out and maybe they're right.

As great as Luka is, he is depressingly annoying to watch - the constant whining to the refs has him firmly on my shitlist and he can stay there until something changes. Lakers games are gonna go for 4-hours if he and Lebron are on the court at the same time...every play will be debated and argued and it's going to be excrutiating.

He was a big Luka fan though and said he'd never trade him. I know they're just words but it's interesting he tried building around Luka, and only 12 months after selling majority shares they trade Luka.

Like you, he annoys me. I don't think they'll miss him as much as some think but I AM surprised they took a mild offer. I mean, AD himself has had his critics, far from durable, and is 32? It's a "win now" move but it feels like they only squeezed the orange once..
