Here's a question Eastie, would you still follow MU regularly if they were ousted from the Premier League etc. and only competed in the European Super League?
TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

I would still follow Man Utd but it would not be the same. It would be very strange. We had a club form called FC United Of Manchester years ago in response to the Glazer takeover of Man Utd by some of our disgruntled supporters.
"Footscray people are incredible people; so humble. I'm just so happy - ecstatic"

Well I think that's the sentiment they're counting on. Sure it won't be the same but folks will still follow them and they'll make themselves more money and the international viewers who attach prestige to the club rather than tradition will continue to grow in numbers.

Yeah Easty, if you want to know what it feels like to be coached by Peter Rhode every year given you missed out when he was at the Dogs, jump on the NUFC bandwagon!

Manchester United Supporters Trust has released the following statement in response to the emerging speculation about the creation of a European Super League.
These proposals are completely unacceptable and will shock Manchester United fans, as well as those of many other clubs.
A “Super League” based on a closed shop of self-selected wealthy clubs goes against everything football, and Manchester United, should stand for. To bring forward these proposals without any fan consultation, and in the midst of a global pandemic when people should be pulling together not serving their own selfish interests, just adds insult to injury.
When Sir Matt Busby led us into the European Cup in the 1950s, the modern Manchester United was founded in the tragedy and then triumph that followed. To even contemplate walking away from that competition would be a betrayal of everything this club has ever stood for. We urge everyone involved in this proposal including Manchester United to immediately withdraw from this proposal.

I think they have this wrong......this is completely what football is about - you will have TV/Internet companies creaming themselves to buy into this league where effectively the BEST of the BEST play. It's essentially a World Cup every year with the best players on show and the best sides on show. Football stopped being a people's game when you had clubs charging £2,500 for a season ticket or £90 quide for a single seat to a category C match. Call it what you want but this has been coming ever since Murdoch launched SuperLeague and Sky effectively created the Premier League.

Isn't it a ploy to get more money out of Europe/TV rights etc
FFC: Established 1883
Premierships: AFL 1954, 2016 VFA - 1898,99,1900, 1908, 1913, 1919-20, 1923-24, VFL: 2014, 2016 . Champions of Victoria 1924. AFLW - 2018.
No they haven't. The clubs involved have made a very smart strategic decision. The fact is no one wants to really watch lesser club's play. Its why they don't command bit TV money and audiences. Cannot think of the last time I turned the telly on to watch the 4pm game between Brighton Hove Albion v Burnley. No name players/boring football style/shite entertainment. Compare that to any derby game between the 12 clubs and it is generally always entertaining.

Bingo! At the end of the day, the geezer forking out each year for their season ticket and chanting is not who these clubs cater for any more - its the cashed up overseas market who will buy shirts and other tat. Watch a game when they are in the UK (London) and fork out more for a ticket to do so. 65m people in the UK - 6 bn people in the world many have internet, but not TV - watch for the games to be sold on Amazon Prime/NetFlix/Apple TV

Totally - but not just TV rights. Its all about internet streaming of games. Sky/BT Sport are essentially dead as subscription services because the cannot maintain the customer base on their platform - TV services are changing and the way we consume football is changing. Why pay £40 a month for Sky Sports when all I want to watch is Spurs and more importantly the Spurs games that are interesting. I'm more likely to pay £10 to watch Spurs v Chelsea/Arsenal/Barcelona/Real Madrid than £40 for the whole prem league
I have zero interest in watching Arsenal exclusively play in a European competition. I have never had any interest in the European Champions League, my interest has only ever been being successful in winning the English First Division/Premiership or the FA Cup. I've also long taken a sort of perverse pleasure in the fact that we have always been in the top flight of English football since 1918. if we do jump to play exclusively in a European competition then I will no longer be an Arsenal supporter (not that I think it will bother the club too much) My support will be transferred to either Watford or Preston North End.
I think a lot of clubs that are involved in this competition have only seen the 3.5 billion euros and it's blinded them to anything else. They haven't really thought through what their supporter bases want and whether they are interested in watching players make even higher wages than they are ATM. It just means that players will be even further removed from reality than they are now.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.
Leeds wear warm up shirts against Liverpool today with “Earn It” and a Champions League logo on the front and “Football is for the fans” on the back. Leave some in Liverpool’s dressing room too.
