The problem with that might be that Green is closing in on a century and then will then feel obliged to get him to that mark.

Obviously it was another outstanding innings by Khawaja and one that will give the selectors food for thought with the line up for the next test but after a slow and nervous start especially against Leach, Green also produced an excellent innings with shots all over the ground. It was only the 2nd time he has passed 50 runs in an innings in his 8 test matches but it was an eye catching performance.

We have searched long and hard for a genuine all-rounder for years and Green has the ability to make that spot his. Whilst he still has a lot to do to cement his spot the fundamentals are all there. His batting is sound, with a terrific array of shots, his bowling has been sharp with the ability to move the ball around and his fielding has been first class.
Consistency will be his challenge and adapting to sub-continent tracks in the short term both with his batting and bowling will be a huge test for him. Its a big if but if he comes through that series against Pakistan with some decent runs and wickets behind him then he should lock in that number 6 spot for a long period of time.

It's still early days but the signs are positive and he just needs to back up this performance with a solid effort in the 5th test.

I know England have shuffled their bowlers around but Boland has taken more wickets in his 3 innings in the field so far than any of the England bowlers have.
With the success for Khawaja and Boland it sort of reinforces the idea that if you are in good form age shouldn't be much of a consideration.

Age is less relevant these days as athletes are fitter and healthier than in the past. Broad is 35 and Anderson 39 and who would have predicted Boland debuting at 32.

Is Carey's keeping worth a discussion?

His keeping has been ok, but has dropped a couple. His batting is a concern and maybe needs to be looked at.

Crawley looking elite this morning. Easily England’s most talented bat besides Root.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

The decision to bat on when we are now so close might be a missed opportunity. For the sake of another 5 overs we would love to have those overs available.

Not sure if some spurts of short bowling may have been handy in the last few overs, but definitely could have been deployed if we had five or ten more overs to bowl at them.

I'm not talking the constant levels seen previously, but some to mix things up.

I really enjoyed watching the last half hour then the last few overs. Test cricket is so superior to any other forms of cricket.
