Fantastic to see Khawaja bat through the day and get his century.
The Pakistan tactics of bowling wide of leg stump to a packed leg side field was to slow down the scoring rate was surprising given they should have been trying to get wickets. The umpires were call ODI type wides down leg side to try and get Pakistan to change their line but to no avail.

stumps 8/505. Carey in a hurry to keep the strike goes out for 93.
I have to wonder about our tactics today. We never really looked like we wanted to bowl at them for 30 or 40 minutes and our scoring rate was very slow.

Pat Cummins said our tactics are to bat, bat and bat some more
If you kicked five goals and Tom Boyd kicked five goals, Tom Boyd kicked more goals than you.

To be fair though Gary, the Pakistan bowling tactics from the middle of day 1 were really negative and contributed heavily to Australia having to modify its tactics. We set the pace early going at over 4 runs an over. But once Pakistan took a defensive leg side approach, it really meant Australia's best tactic was to bat for time and slowly grind a big first innings lead. The hope is that as the pitch starts to break down from Day 3, we can aim to roll them twice in the remaining time. I think we should try and bat for another 30 for 40 mins on day 3. Try and get the score to 550.

I called out Pakistans day 1 approach but I just didn't think we did enough yesterday. Our intent just didn't seem to be there.

Will be interesting to see how our bowlers go on that pitch. Will the spinners cause the most havoc?
The delivery Naumann got Green with raised my eyebrows, it was a peach, turning from outside leg to hit top of off stump. If Naumann was a fresh young 22 year old, I think that delivery would've received a lot more attention from the media. It reminded me of Warne's delivery to Gatting.
Lyon and Swepson must've liked the look of it.

Admittedly I only really watched from mid 2nd session onwards, but Carey looked to be the only one who looked capable and confident enough to effectively sweep and reverse sweep to the wide deliveries. I wonder if the other batsmen just don't have the same confidence as Carey to deploy those shots. The pacemen looked to be getting some decent late reverse swing too, so I can understand the tentative nature of our batting.
