    Commonwealth Games

An event that is slowly fading away into memory, but might have a little renaissance with Melbourne to host the next one and our track and field and swimming teams looking like they are about to enter a golden generation.

I am a big fan of the Olympics and not going to lie, last year's event in Tokyo absolutely carried me through the lockdowns.

Comm Games are a quirky, school carnival version. But I'm happy to get around it and throw a bit of support behind folks who otherwise don't get much of a slice of the pie.

    Anyone else tuning in?

We are off to a fast start with 5 gold medals in the swimming.
We could be setting a lot of records at these games.

Seriously. How good were our marathon runners. Just inspirational stuff all round.

In the mens, Liam Adams part time runner, full time sparky again puts on an unbelievable effort to set the pace and take it right up to the to the running machines from East Africa. Courage and gutsy running to take out fourth. Andy Buchanan in his first Aussie singlet also had a good run. The Bendigo Bats Cross Country superstar now running on the world stage.

It is a golden age for female marathoning in this country. We had 1st, 4th and 5th last night. Jess Stenson nee Trengove taking out the win after a great run. Only her second run since the birth of her son. She ran a PB first run back from being a mother at the Perth Marathon and has had to deal with injuries and even COVID in the build up to the Comm Games. She now has the trifecta of medals at the Commonwealth Games. In 4th position we had Wellings who is now participating in her 5th Comm Games at the age of 39 fresh off a win at the Half Marathon on the Gold Coast (Where she actually beat Jess). In 5th place we had Diver who is 45 years old which is just incredible. All our female marathoners are Mums with an average age of 39.

Inspirational running and amazing role models.

Great runs in the marathon, they’re really mixing it with the best.

Has been some very competitive hockey played.

I am enjoying following the Squash tournament out of all the racquet sports.

100%. Massive win in a world class field. Brought a massive smile to my face after the disappointment of the Dogs yesterday.

                    Huge.

A shame McSweyn was out with illness and has had a bad trot since Tokyo. He and Hoare are both world class. Ollie’s run there breaks a 60 year drought.

Yep. It’s not like it was against b- graders. He just beat the world champ and a previous world champ. Incredible result.

Callum Peters in the boxing just went hell for leather and fell 1 point short of gold in one of the better bouts you’ll see from this tournament.

Women's Javelin was exciting with the Australian World Champ Barber winning Gold with her last throw to beat fellow Australian McKenzie Little.

Also a thrilling 10,000m men's walk with Tingay getting Silver

How good was Peter Bol? He got Silver in the 800m final and really pushed Kinyamal all the way.
