Apparently the official figure to not have the games (which their own report said not to have) is $380,000,000 in lost taxpayers money - but the actual figure is likely to be substantially higher.

Can we just add in $50,000,000 to make WO a genuine AFEL stadium and hide the loss here?

It's a substantial number isn't it to not get anything return?
Spread that money around some regional towns and wonderful things could be built.

Has another venue for the Games been located yet?
It would be a shame to lose the games all together.

There's no defending it by saying "better than 6 billion". That's revisionist history that could go back to "better if Daniel Andrews parents never met" (which is silly and I don't think it but where do you stop.)

Every now and then it's ok to say the side you're on got one wrong. And they did on this.

Just more money by the Vic state government wasted which could have been used in other key areas need. Just huge incompetence. If they could not take it on there they should never have signed the contract in the first place.

Governments are supposed to set realistic budgets every year. For longer term projects, funding is in provisions which should be included in annual Budgets. The Public Service, really the Department of Treasury, is supposed to provide expertise to enable Politicians to present budgets that allow Governments to fund its operations. 4 $bil difference is approaching Royal Commission seriousness. Unexpected events, like covid, aren't the fault of government but the Commonwealth Games bid was a year after the last lockdown. We have the government we deserve.

On a happier note, 3 heats of the 3,000 metres steeplechase is being/has been fun to watch. Some of those blokes completely cleared the water jump.

I anticipate the union is already planning on ways to make a claim for our share of the 5.62 billion saved.
