Why would they fake the crowd? This seems super tinfoil hat territory.

Don't they need to account for the dollars? It was absolutely packed where i was. All the corporate areas were full to the brim.

The size of the MCG makes it hard to estimate crowds. Your 8000 fewer people is easily mis calculated

Corporate areas mid week and a "soccer" game probably dont empty out as much to the seats either. I saw a load of people still in them during the game.

When an organisation only has so many levers to pull to increase revenues as is the case with the MCG, and all of those are tied to bums on seats, is it really that big of a stretch to think on occasion some bullshitting happens?

Additionally, grants and public funding for facilities like the MCG are tied to bums on seats. There's a direct incentive for the MCG to overstate attendances.
