It won't get harder than this for McSweeney in Test cricket. If he can get through this, he'll get a huge amount of confidence.

Labaschugne and McSweeney stay in at the end of Day 1.

A very good first day for us. Bowled well to get India out for 180.

The key now is this innings. If the top order does well we will be in a strong position.

Good result. Better than my prediction of 6/40 at stumps.....

Re: Australia v India Test Series 2024/25

I think it was a great exhibition of why they went McSweeney - leaves the ball well, bats within himself, punishes anything short - he's proven to be a scorer of tough runs for South Australia and that's probably why they were happy for him to open.

Tomorrow presents a different challenge and something he's struggled with a bit in the Shield - you've done most of the hard work, get through the first hour tomorrow and then make it count. He does have a propensity to get a good start and then not get the runs that start warrants - you can see it in his first class numbers with a poor conversion rate of 6 tons to 12 fifties and his highest score is only 127.

He's done the gutsy work, hopefully he can be the guy who makes it count now with a decent score.

Australia bounced back with a couple of partnerships to build a good lead. India is struggling at the moment.

Was watching at the Mona Castle in Seddon tonight. Another really good day for us. Travis Head the player of the day with the bat 140. Nice to see Labaschagne get some confidence with 64. Boland and Cummins very good with the ball. They have got us into a really good position now.

So is Australian cricket still dead? I can't figure it out.

Is there any danger of one of these sides fighting through a bad innings and not allowing 2/10 to turn into 4/20? I'll give Labaschagne some credit for his efforts in Perth where he just needed someone to "stand with him"...but he also needed to score and turn the strike over.

Test matches were designed to go 5-days weren't they??

It's frustrating that bats can't tough it out much of the time, but I'm starting to think that if you want to have the best players playing all formats there's going to have to be some compromises to ensure the best players don't get sucked into T20 competitions.

Is it worth considering four day tests? Not sure on the data points, but if tests aren't going into five days then perhaps things need to change.

Needed that test win after the debacle of the first test. We go into the 3rd test with some confidence as we level the series 1-1.

It will be interesting to see the squad for the GABBA. Cummings will be back but do we drop Bolland or does The Goat make way. Personally I?m leaning towards the 4 quicks
                              BB.

Looking forward - Naughton, Darcy and JUH. It will be the envy of everyone.

Do you mean Hazlewood? He may return but I don't believe he's a certainty. There is no cricketer named Cummings as far as I know

I can see merit in the 4 quicks but I doubt they drop Lyon. Bolland will be the unlucky one if Hazlewood is right to go.
