My point is that the Victorian selectors bitch and moan about why their guys don't get opportunities in the Australian side and yet the side is made up of imports and in some cases aging ones. They can't have it both ways. Funnily enough it's taken an injury to Wright to provide the much younger Hastings the opportunity to shine and I think the competition is better for it.

In a 50 over game the Vics top order all got off to starts but couldn't get to 20 runs.

McDonald, Rogers, Hodge, Hussey and White all came up short for a decent score.

Finch and Hastings started to get something going but Finch is now out. Lets hope Siddle can get some early scalps.

Hastings gone as well now. Finch and Hastings really dug us out of a massive hole (still in a very big one) but we really needed one of them to bat out the innings (or close enough to). Hastings sure loves the cross batted shots, a brut of a batsman.

Big job for young Pattinson now.

We made 188. Disappointing not to bat out the 50 overs after the Hastings/Finch recovery.

Really need Siddle to create a bit of damage in his opening spell. Breaking up Jaques/Warner is huge.

Good call. He's bowled a couple of bad balls that got wickets but we now have a chance.

James Pattinson ended up with 6/48, the best ever bowling figures for Victoria in ODD cricket.

Sensational effort by him. It's great that guys like Pattison and Hastings have stepped up this season.

I think Hastings has been our best player in both SS and FRC. As I post that he concedes 14 in a over.

I have also been impressed by Holland's bowling tonight. He is really struggling to take a wicket in his last couple of ODD's but he doesn't bowl too many bad balls. Hopefully he builds on that solid base.

                        Re: The Vics

Victoria's loss was Australian crickets gain for mine. We saw 3 really good young quicks last night in Hazlewood, Starc and Pattison who all have massive futures. Khawaja has a good head on his shoulders and played a very composed knock while all three spinners playing in Holland, Smith and O'Keefe had their good moments. Finch and Henriques also played their roles.

Australia wont be down for much longer if we can keep turning out and developing young cricketers of this stature. A number of the under 23 year olds last night really sent a message to the selectors for the future. Throw in young kids like M.Marsh and A.Mcdermott and you can really see the bones of our next generation of test cricketers. The future looks bright.

Didn't want to start a new thread, so I'll just carry on this one.

Good effort by the Vics to restrict NSW to 224. Jaques and Hughes got them off to a good start but after they were dismissed they just fell apart.

What is Warner doing batting at seven and Steve Smith at three?

I saw some of the worst deliveries today by the Vics. One Hodge bowled from about 2 feet behind the crease was almost a double bouncer and one of the wides Hasting bowled was in another area code.

NSW were lucky to get to 224 in my opinion.

The Vics won in a canter. Wade got 50 and got out with two runs to get and MacDonald got a few not out.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

You have to love the duckworth system in action again tonight.

NSW made 224 from 49.3 overs. After a rain delay Victoria had to make 213 from 44 overs.

I've never been able to properly understand the system and this is why I don't really want to.

IIRC the Vics were 2/40 off 11 overs when rain interrupted.
