There has been talk of his developing his own version of a doosra, that might be it.

It's a shame Afridi isn't in the side. With Kahn, Yousef and Afridi it could be a potent batting order. Afridi's bowling is OK as well.

Yeah Afridi would be a great 2nd spinner, especially at the SCG.

Pakistan are playing a couple of solid batsmen types. It's a decent enough tactic against the likes of West Indies and New Zealand but against the stronger sides they really come unstuck. Afridi's batting style is very 'zero to hero' but at least he offers an upside. His test batting average is 37 which is better than all bar two of the bats currently playing for them. Apparently he isn't going to play test cricket until after the 2011 ODI WC.

Hauritz gets his first five-for, including the prize wicket of Yousef. I've only seen limited vision today – was his increased runs p/over due to more aggressive, flighted bowling?

A first century for Watson and Hauritz get his first 5 for.

Feels like most Aussie offies talk about their doosra but I've never seen it implemented in a match.

I might have been wrong about Hauritz but have the selectors given faith (a few test matches in a row) to others maybe they would have been as good or better.

That argument could be used often however, at the time Hauritz got selected only Krejza was in consideration after McGain got injured.

Do you let the likes of Krejza leak runs in the test arena or send him back to the strong shield competition and get him to work on that there? I think they made the right choice at the time and Krejza is probably a better spinner now than 12 months back because of it.
If he gets his chance again he will be better prepared.

Hauritz got selected because he could keep things tight and has been improving bit by bit as well.

So who do you think should have been given the extended chance instead of Hauritz?

The options were something like persist with McGain which given his age would have been short sighted. Stick with Krejza and lose a few games along the way. Try and get White to step up which was never going to happen or look at Hauritz and give him the chance.
                        They made the right call.

Both Krezja and McGain. Too late now

They couldn't win the Welsh test because they didn't have a spinner at the time that was capable of bowling on the 5th day like Hauritz did today.

Its too early to tell if they made the right move yet. There are claims it cost them a Ashes series.

Krejza bowled Khawaja with one in a Sheffield Shield match this season.

McGain was injured when Krejza got his chance and we would have had to lose a lot of games if we were expecting Krejza to improve at the test arenas.
I think it was far better for Krejza to go back into the shield games and sort out how to bowl a bit tighter whilst still giving it a rip. I haven't written him off but at the time he needed to be dropped.
McGain hasn't been the same since his injuries and I now think Holland is ahead of him.

We lost a lot of games anyway. South Africa over here and an Ashes series.
