Finally a decent innings from Johnson. Mind you I probably wouldn't have selected him but it was a timely knock. We have missed those little cameos from him.

Since his move to the openers spot he has been one of the main reasons why the whole side hasn't been copping a lot more scrutiny from the media.

Yep, and I can't understand why some people want him dropped down the order.

I can understand the temptation but we would need to have another opener who could consistently build an innings like he has been able to.
Not sure if Hughes or Rogers would add that much stability to the top of the order.

The big temptation of moving him to the middle order in India might have been to utilise his bowling more as the 3rd seamer which would allow 2 spinners to be played.

No doubt he's been a success and has earned the spot but he has a massive workload and one that wont get any lighter. I would expect him to have to bowl a number of overs against the better teams and at some point his form with the bat will wane. At number 6 at least he can fall back on his bowling when the runs aren't flowing so easily, in the opening slot he's going to be a lot more exposed. The suns shining at the moment but I'm not sure he will get the same concessions when his form dips

I'm not sure I would play the second spinner for the sake of it, Smith isn't up to it yet, especially against these batsmen in these conditions. We havent even seen how Hauritz copes yet, Smith would get slaughtered for mine.

My preference would have been O'Keefe not Smith but I guess the 2nd spinner is really North anyway.
Hopefully the quicks can make a dent in the batting order.

It would be a big call but having never seen O'Keefe bowl I cant really comment. Sehwag will really be the key, if he hangs around for a few sessions India may very well have it in the bag.
Im backing Sehwag to be caught for <10 slicing one to point off Doug

I think even if he's dropped down the order number four or five would be a better spot for him, especially since he's in such good form at the moment. If we had another opener to take the spot Watson at 5 and White at 6 could be a good combination.

After making a very decent score of 428 the Australian attack got smacked around but Sehwag and India end the day at 2 for 110 with a run rate better than 5 runs per over.

Paine scored 92 after getting dropped before he scored.

                            Re: Australia vs India

Johnson has had a nice little cameo return to form, was the only one to really trouble the batsmen with his line. Hilf had a better second spell and was his same solid self while Bollinger threw down a fair amount of crap. This is his first real test against quality opposition so it will be interesting to see how he fights back.
Watson and Johnson to be the key today with the ball getting a touch older and hopefully going reverse.

That stumping miss by Paine will cost us. Very straight forward chance.

A couple of quick wickets by Johnson has got us back on to a level playing field.
