Disgraceful. Not only do we have a pace attack that is flaccid at best, we have a captain telegraphing to the entire cricket world that he has no faith in them either.

We may well have a test series where all bar the Sydney test is a draw.

Hughes believed Ben Hilfenhaus was the quick bowler under most pressure to retain his spot for the second Test against England starting Friday in Adelaide.

The ex-selector said Hilfenhaus' performance (1-142) in the drawn Ashes opener in Brisbane was more disappointing than Johnson's wicketless match.

"Ben Hilfenhaus ... he was the guy up there that I expected, especially on the first day, to do a really good job,'' Hughes told Melbourne radio station SEN.

"And probably his performance, for mine, is a little bit more disappointing than Mitchell's.''

pretty easy to see why Merv was sacked as a selector.

            Thats just ridiculous Merv.

How did Johnson become such a golden boy.

He's also thrown up the possibility of selecting two spinners.

What's more concerning than his suggestions is the manner in which he makes them -- with no real analysis or rationale, more a gut feel type trying to be too clever for his own good -- if his level of thought is indicative of the type of people we have selecting the team (and of course it is), then no wonder we are in such a mess.

                In Harris
                Out Johnson

There's speculation Mitch was told of this today by Hilditch(7 news speculation anyway)

Apparently Katich is battling an ankle injury from being hit at short leg last test, but it's ok he will play and should be right...

                  SO we have,

                  Katich
                  Clarke
                  North
                  Ponting
                  Johnson

Either under an injury cloud or just downright out of form, plus Hilfenhaus, Siddle, and Haddin only just returning from injury, and questions over whether Hussey has actually turned the corner.

                  How could we lose!!

I often wonder why the WI bowlers of the last 20 years can't bowl like Ambrose & Walsh too.

Surely it couldn't be that hard to run in and bowl the ball in the same spot time & time again

The execution may not be of the quality of someone like McGrath but the strategy of trying to bowl the right spots is surely superior to bowling nothing wide balls outside off. Gives you some chance of taking a wicket.

Good to see Hauritz fighting back for NSW, claiming 7 wickets for the match, 5 on the final day and being named man of the match. Should never have been left out.

I'm tending to agree but it might have been better for him to get another game in at the shield level.

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Johnson dropped from Australia squad for Adelaide Test

Paceman Mitchell Johnson has been dropped from the Australia side for the second Test against England in Adelaide starting on Friday.

Captain Ricky Ponting said on Thursday a final starting XI would be decided before play, but confirmed Johnson had been omitted from the 12-man squad.

Quicks Doug Bollinger and Ryan Harris are the pair vying for Johnson's spot in the starting team.
Australia: Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke, Simon Katich, Shane Watson, Marcus North, Mike Hussey, Brad Haddin, Xavier Doherty, Doug Bollinger, Ryan Harris, Peter Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus. (12th man to be named).
