I just liked the way they Let Johnson return to form by bowling in the nets!
They pick Hughes when his out of form
They pick Beer, feel sorry for the lad thrown to the wolves!
They don't pick Ferguson or even a David Hussey both in form
Panic stations central that selection committee.

Won't happen I know, acceptance doesn't equal understanding though
Not a fan of Hussey coming in at his age. A couple of years ago that would have been alright, but right now this team needs an overhaul and a major rebuild with a little short time pain for long time gain.
      The curse is dead.

Until the team is no longer a "gentleman's club" where players get picked caused they are in a "click" it will continue to raise eyebrows.
I will never see #16 the same!!

Re: The Ashes - 3rd Test

Had a discussion with a bloke from a district club and he said its a money problem, for every contracted player its at least 210,000, if you are named in the squad five times in a year you automatically become contracted.
They gave out 25 contracts to older players and are reluctant to pay players who are not playing, thus try to keep playing them and not fork out more money to others.
Seems to be a real problem with how the contract deals are written.
Just maybe this is why they are reluctant to drop certain players.
I dont confess to know a lot on this but could just be one of the reasons the team is a mess and certain players arent dropped.

The problem with that theory ledge is that the contracts are only for 12 months. You could say it is a problem during one season but we have had the same problem for 3 years now.

The 2009-10 Cricket Australia contracted players are:
            Doug Bollinger: NSW, 27
            Nathan Bracken: NSW, 31
            Stuart Clark: NSW, 33
            Michael Clarke: NSW, 28
            Callum Ferguson: SA, 24
            Brad Haddin: NSW, 31
            Nathan Hauritz: NSW, 27
            Ben Hilfenhaus: TAS, 26
            Brad Hodge: VIC, 34
            James Hopes: QLD, 30
            Phillip Hughes: NSW, 20
            David Hussey: VIC, 31
            Mike Hussey: WA, 33
            Mitchell Johnson: WA, 27
            Simon Katich: NSW, 33
            Brett Lee: NSW, 32
            Graham Manou: SA, 30
            Shaun Marsh: WA, 25
            Andrew McDonald: VIC, 27
            Marcus North: WA, 29
            Ricky Ponting: TAS, 34
            Peter Siddle: VIC, 24
            Andrew Symonds: QLD, 33
            Shane Watson: NSW, 27
            Cameron White: VIC, 25

THE players contracted to Cricket Australia for 2010-11 are:

            Doug Bollinger (NSW) 28
            Michael Clarke (NSW) 29
            Callum Ferguson (SA) 25
            Brad Haddin (NSW) 32
            Ryan Harris (QLD) 30
            Nathan Hauritz (NSW) 28
            Ben Hilfenhaus (TAS) 27
            James Hopes (QLD) 31
            Phillip Hughes (NSW) 21
            Michael Hussey (WA) 34
            Mitchell Johnson (WA) 28
            Simon Katich (NSW) 34
            Brett Lee (NSW) 33
            Shaun Marsh (WA) 26
            Andrew McDonald (VIC) 28
            Clint McKay (VIC) 27
            Marcus North (WA) 30
            Tim Paine (TAS) 25
            Ricky Ponting (TAS) 35
            Peter Siddle (VIC) 25
            Steven Smith (NSW) 20
            Shaun Tait (SA) 27
            Adam Voges (WA) 30
            Shane Watson (NSW) 28
            Cameron White (VIC) 26

Ryan Harris, Clint McKay, Tim Paine, Steven Smith, Adam Voges were all added. So we added 2 30 year olds and kept Brett lee contracted for another year. And kept Hopes on the list too.

Brett Lee, wow what a mates looking after mates contract that is.
We could all easily ask why are some of those players on contracts, also answers the question on why Hughes is in the side.
              No form but contracted.

They arent. They are reacting. We have lost complete control of the agenda because we failed to make some tough decisions after the last Ashes debacle. CA should have started with having a good look at the selectors (could you see this lot dropping Ian Healy and replacing him with Gilchrist?), moved onto having one of those 'difficult' conversations with the coahing staff and then overhauled player contracts.

That was the time to act, we failed to and now it's going to be painful in the medium to long term. Now we have to go back to the beginning and rebuild, starting with dismantling the boys club that has developed under Ponting/Neilson/Hilditch. There arent going to be any miracles just a lot of hard work and heartache.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Throwing the toys out of the cot but I cant really blame the bloke, shouldnt have been dropped and should be playing here. Beer should be twelfth man though, we play the four quicks and Smith rolls the arm over when a partnership settles. Johnson, Siddle, Harris, Hilf and Smith, we probably need a bag of 8 or 9 wickets for the match from one to take the twenty.

Unbelievable. That shows how much pride he had in representing his country is it? It says more about Hauritz's attitude than any poor treatment he believes he's received from the selectors. Heres a bloke who was lucky to have played test cricket at all thinking he has a god given right to be wearing the baggy green.

What a poor excuse for a cricketer, let alone a cricketer who is supposed to have a professional attitude. My concern is that I dont think he is the only one with that sort of thought process currently in the team.

Dont let the door hit you on the arse on the way out Nathan.

He didn't chuck a tanty and I don't see anything wrong. Still very much in the test mix as far as I am concerned.

I wondered if it was something like this, I've been to a currentish test players house and the amount of gear these guys get each year is unimaginable. If they don't have a clearance each year they'll drown.

Beer has been left out... What a bloody silly thing to do.

Going with an all pace attack with Smith to provide some variety.

England have won the toss and we will bat first.

They also lost the toss and are batting. Huge gamble. Not sure why they picked Beer at all.
