Re: 8 Emerging Players
Whilst county cricket is below the level of shield cricket it is a long way ahead of Club Cricket. County cricket is played over four days but there are also regular limited overs' fixtures.
County cricket is an excellent base for Test cricket as battle hardened professionals maintain a competitive standard.
The Academy, like here, is absurdly over-played as the reason for either theirs or our success.Comment

Re: 8 Emerging Players
I've read some nice comments about how James Faulkner hurried up Chris Gayle last night and then was quite adept with his slower ball.
Unless his bowling really improves it's probably hard to see him slotting into an Australian side but he is improving.
Can he get there as a limited over cricketer?Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: 8 Emerging Players
I actually like his style a lot in that he throws the ball up a bit above the batsmen eye-line, the ball drifts and drops a bit and he got a bit of turn. He bowled way to many bad bowls and got lucky off a couple of them to snare a couple of wickets. He looks an exciting prospect, but based on last night he still has a fair way to go to become a consistent spin bowler.Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?Comment

Re: 8 Emerging Players
Whilst our cricket performance have been inconsistent there is still a number of youngsters that we should be excited about
Mitchell Marsh - WA
- An exciting middle order batsman and handy medium pacer.
Nic Maddinson - NSW
- Just turning 19, Maddison has been a strong performer with the bat this summer. Bats left handed and bowls some left arm orthodox.
Josh Hazelwood - NSW
- Strongly built quick bowler who is currently struggling with some injuries
Chris Lynn - QLD
- Having a terrific Shield season and for a 20yo he is already a very composed batsman
Alister McDermott - QLD
- Still only 19, McDermott is primarily used in the limited over versions for the game but is an exciting prospect.
James Faulkner - TAS
- A 20yo left handed bowling all-rounder and right handed batsman, Faulkner has put in some impressive performances this season.
James Pattinson - VIC
- A 20yo right handed quick who is hand with the bat. Rated highly and certainly one to watch
Alex Keath - VIC
- Currently better known as someone who turned his back on an AFL career this 18yo all-rounder is still yet to debut in a Shield game but
When you add the highly talented, but better known, youngsters to the mix like Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc and Phil Hughes I think Australian cricket can bounce back pretty quickly
Any other younger players worth listing?
Is there any other players we should add to the mix?
Agar, Silk and Burns?Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: 8 Emerging Players
Travis Head from South Australia, made a few 90s and needs to convert for his maiden ton but he's a 19 year old batting 3 for the redbacks with all the shots in the book and a great defensive technique. Will score a lot of tons for Australia.
I like Silk, limited talent but tremendous temperament and great fielder, brilliant start to his first class career.Comment

Marsh has been disappointing mainly due to off field distractions but could easily turn it around
Maddinson is still young but looks and exciting prospect. He's probably still a way off the pace for National selection.
Hazelwood has battled injuries but still looks very promising.
Lynn has been steady and McDermott has battled some minor injuries.
Pattinson when fit is right in the selection mix and has been the most successful of this group.
Faulkner is on the fringes of the Test team but must improve his bowling.
Who else do you regard as an emerging young Australian cricketer of the future?
Agar and Muirhead from a spin bowling perspective?
Silk looks a good prospect with the battingWestern Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

I think this worth another look at. All bar Alex Keath have turned into very good cricketers.

Re: 8 Emerging Players
Have been talking him up for years after playing with him but the hype is excessive. Full confidence he will be a high quality leggie but the lad is 20 and has one first class game. I hope Inverarity and the selectors dont force the issue with him at this stage.Comment
