Nil all at the half. I missed the first 25 minutes and the Japs have had a few chances since. Not sure what Holger sees in Carney. Left sided- give him a game.

Fantastic game tonight by two sides that wanted to win. Some strange decisions tho by the ref who sent off 2 players, where both second yellow cards were harsh. Australia playing for much of the second half with 10 men, whereas Japan's red card was in the final few minutes.

Japan will be incensed about the awarding of a penalty. Fouls like that if interpreted that way would see 10 penalties a game!

All in all, both sides will be happy with a point, probably a fair result too; 1-1.

Finished 1-1. Good result - considering.
One of the worst refereeing displays I've seen at a national level. Though he was equally bad for both sides.
Mulligan was sent of with a second yellow when challenging for a high ball in the box. Free but not a yellow. Ref almost does a Graham Poll until he realises.
Japan was pretty much all over Australia and more so after the red. Japs score soon after, bit of ball chasing in defence.
Then the Japs concede the softest of all penalties for push by the keeper on Cahill. Wilkshire converts.
Deliberate hand ball by a Japanese player already on a yellow goes unpunished.
Ogendowski strikes the cross bar. Then the Jap CB gets a second yellow on an off side ball.
Ref ends the game with an untaken free by Japan in a goal scoring area!
That made me laugh.

Result not great for Australia and good for Japan.

Didn't watch the game but a 1-1 result against Japan is not terrible by any means. Japan are one of the strongest teams in Asia so not a big suprise. The Oman match I thought we would win but the weather I heard over there didn't help too much. That's what World Cup Qualifying is all about.

We'll scrape through and qualify imo, tough having Japan away but we're still so much better at home. And I would still back us. We were great vs Japan earlier, prey we can recapture that.

That being said, things are looking horrifically ugly in the case actually do qualify. Which is well documented.

Was rather pissed off with destroying myself for work and staying up to watch that performance vs Jordan. Was one of the more pure frustration type games in recent memory.

and the winner of the third place play off then faces a home-away tie against the fifth placed team from South America - with the winner qualifying for the WC. A rather daunting prospect.
